Because both are common things.knife he bought is either for cooking or fruit cutting. That are common everywhere you go. And pepper spray is a protective item that can be used to get opportunity to run and it's not soo fatal for body. And here someone ask why they are available to public.

I was being sarcastic but since you brought it up:
Guns are also common things. They can be used for hunting or signaling. They are also protective items and some are not fatal for body (taser, paint ball).

Believe it or not, pepper spray is illegal in many countries in Europe, because "Otherwise the bad guys would just buy it and use it against their victims!" Same goes for anything bigger than a Swiss Army knife.

(Of course the bad guys still have knives, guns, pepper spray, etc...)

reply
2 ups, 1 reply
Because that's what they want?

If you disagree with him, say so. Don't make a blanket accusation about "strawman".
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
I agree that gun control isn't the right solution, but I think that to accuse gun control advocates of all wanting to take away every citizen's guns and abolish the 2nd Amendment is a strawman argument.

There are people like laonsite that actually do seem to want to abolish the 2nd Amendment, but most of them want what they call "reasonable restrictions" on gun purchases. While these are restrictive and may infringe on our 2nd Amendment constitutional rights, they don't actively abolish it or take away every honest citizen's guns.

In the end, I find that strawman arguments tend to alienate the other side and convince them of their intellectual and moral superiority when we should be discussing the issue reasonably and without logical fallacies like reasonable, responsible adults.
reply

Criminals don't follow "reasonable restrictions."
Only law abiding citizens would be affected by them.
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
Did you even read my comment? I explicitly stated I DO NOT SUPPORT GUN CONTROL. I completely 100% agree with that statement, thus the quotation marks on "reasonable restrictions".
reply
0 ups
Great. Since you don't support gun control, you are one of us that knows the Left will chip away at our rights over time with their ultimate intent being to "abolish or take away every honest citizen's guns" with all their "reasonable restrictions" (most of which are already in place).

You're making a red herring. No one was talking about distracted or drunk driving. That has nothing to do with the topic at hand.
reply
6 ups, 2 replies
But guns are the topic in the meme and the left love to bring up the "at-the-surface" scary number of 30,000 gun deaths per year, ignoring the fact that 20-22 thousand of those deaths were not murders by guns. Take away suicides, then take away cops killing criminals and you get a more realistic number or about 5,000 to 8,000 per year.

In Chicago alone, the number of homicides where guns are involved is 500-700 per year. And Chicago has some of the most strict gun laws in the country.

Another misdirection by the left on gun deaths is that Texas (being one of the most gun-friendly states in the country), with a high death rate where guns are involved is due mainly to the fact that Texas has a high suicide rate, state-wide.
reply
2 ups, 1 reply
I agree with what you say, although I'm a tad skeptical that Chicago accounts for a full ten percent of gun murders nationwide. It could very well be true, but it sounds a little bit inflated.
reply
2 ups, 1 reply
"More than 100,000 people in America are shot in murders, assaults, suicides & suicide attempts, accidents, or by police intervention. 31,537 people die from gun violence: 11,583 people are murdered. 18,783 people kill themselves."

This was taken from the FBI statistics website. These numbers are the average and 2016 was the worst year.

60% of all gun deaths are from suicides.
37% are murdered.

In 2016 there were 762 homicides using guns.
reply

I didn't realise that Chicago was its own separate country, with its own borders and checks on every vehicle entering the city. No way anyone could bring guns into that City, Trump's new border polices sure are working!
reply
2 ups, 1 reply
That's a stupid argument as to why Chicago has so many homicides using guns. No one who obeys the laws, whether they're good laws or bad laws, are going to break those laws. Only the bad guys disregard the laws. So the bad guys get the guns and the good guys are left shitting their pants when confronted by them because they have no way of protecting themselves.

It's sad you live in a country where you need guns to protect yourself and people die in the crossfire, or from an unhappy student, or a disgruntled employee or just going to a movie theatre or a concert in Las Vegas or.....

If you need guns to protect yourself, then there is something wrong with your society.

Taking Guns away from Law Abiding Citizens will save no more lives than castrating gay men to prevent the **pe of Women (They never had any intent to use the 'weapon' in that manner in the first place.)

k, it goes like this, now write this down with crayons if it'll help ya any:

Spend some years fighting in a country, and you might eventually learn its name by the time you leave. And yes, even Retardblicans too also might possibly yeah.

See, that's that difference between you and me and, quite frankly, between me and everyone else. Scrolll down this thread and see someone I normally would be more inclined to agree with than you, and yet I ain't here because you said something that was f-a-c-t-u-a-l and he d-i-d n-o-t. Gits their little adrenalin rush goin then they have to strike back lest their cortisols swamp em and BOOM! more adrenalin and the dopamine gushes when they're done friggin themselves silly and oh, there's seratonin too, woo woo.

I ain't here to thcore pointth on my big bad modda fuggin e-belt. I'm too old, I deal with realities cuz I ain't a millenial like someone whose name I won't say but rhymes with Natalie_vance, comprendearererereereeeeeeeee,,,,,,,?
