How do you know what they would think right now? The world was very different 200 years ago than it is today. They only had muskets, not AR-15s. They didn't have as many people in the military which is why farmboys had to take up arms. They wrote the second amendment for a very different time. They might hate what guns have become. But I stand by my original statement. Guns have *always* been a plague on humanity. And they always will be.

Fighting the military might be crazy, but what about protecting against criminals? What about muggers and rapists who will almost always choose to attack a person weaker than themselves? Certainly, pepper spray and self-defense training will help, but not much if the criminal powers through them. A gun remains the best tool for self-defense ever created, especially for women.

I am not going to insult your values. I do believe that you want to see less death, less murder, less violence. I sympathize with that. I used to think that a world without guns was desirable but unfeasible, but at the end of the day, I don't think I would like to live in a world where rapists and other thugs never have to worry about being shot. If the right to bear arms only applies to a well regulated (eroniously interpreted as government approved) militia, there would have been no need to include it in the bill of rights.
If you want to do away with the second amendment, or even other parts of the constitution, just admit it. Many people feel it is antiquated and obsolete. This is true. But many claim to "respect" the second amendment while intentionally interpreting it in a way that makes it meaningless. If it only applies to a well regulated (interpreted as government approved by those who push this limitation) militia, then there would have been no reason to include it as all a government has to do to limit (infringe on) the right to bear arms is refuse to approve or acknowledge militias.
