"I’ve heard commentators rightly point out that the majority of the federal budget is on autopilot, dominated by required spending, such as the pyramid schemes of social security and medicare, so any cuts made by Elon and Vivek are likely to only scratch the surface. Even if you accept that argument, which I don’t, cutting wasteful spending isn’t the only advantage of undertaking this effort. All these government agencies intrude on our lives, siphon our hard-earned money, deteriorate our freedoms, and create endless obstructions to a thriving economy. Most of this crap is done by unelected bureaucrats trying to justify their existence. The Department of Education has squandered countless trillions and introduced an endless amount of impediments to quality education. Despite spending that dwarfs any other country in the world, the U.S. doesn’t even make the top 25 in most subject rankings. The concept of Return On Investment is almost as foreign of a concept to government officials as Expenses – Revenue = Deficit. Bring out the chainsaws!"
