Critical Race Theory…

1 believes racism is present in every aspect of life, every relationship, and every interaction and therefore has its advocates look for it everywhere

2 relies upon “interest convergence” (white people only give black people opportunities and freedoms when it is also in their own interests) and therefore doesn’t trust any attempt to make racism better

3 is against free societies and wants to dismantle them and replace them with something its advocates control

4 only treats race issues as “socially constructed groups,” so there are no individuals in Critical Race Theory

5 believes science, reason, and evidence are a “white” way of knowing and that storytelling and lived experience are a “black” alternative, which hurts everyone, especially black people

6 rejects all potential alternatives, like colour-blindness, as forms of racism, making itself the only allowable game in town (which is totalitarian)

7 acts like anyone who disagrees with it must do so for racist and white supremacist reasons, even if those people are black (which is also totalitarian)

8 cannot be satisfied, so it becomes a kind of activist black hole that threatens to destroy everything it is introduced into

I got a speeding ticket two weeks ago. Not because I was going faster than the car in front of me or the other cars around me, but because I have out of state license plates. White privilege: one coupon per customer, some limitations apply, void where prohibited - and mostly made up BS from perpetual victims.
4 ups, 4y,

I was one of several cars travelling at the same speed, as evidenced by the car in front of me. Mine was the only car with out of state tags as far as I know, and the officer specifically referenced the tags when he stopped me. I was indeed speeding, and will pay the fine...but of all the speeding vehicles in the pack mine was chosen because it was different. My supposed white privilege didn't protect me. Mostly because white privilege is an accusation from people who aren't getting what they want and need someone to blame for it.

You still don't get all the irony squeezed into that lovely story.

1. Skin color/License plate color

2. You broke the law, yet somehow you're the victim.

3. You were aware you were deliberately breaking the law, yet the blame falls on the officer who ticketed you because he's prejudiced against out of state plates.

There are 'certain' people who got killed for less by law enforcement, so try not to take it too hard that you could Zsa Zsa out of that in one piece.
2 ups, 4y,

Yes, I broke the law - along with several others. Though that doesn't justify my breaking the law, I was singled out because of the license plate, and my supposed privilege did not give me any advantage. Nor did I expect it to. I didn't killed because I was polite and did what I was told without argument. My skin color had nothing to do with it. Never argue with a cop, that's what court is for.

You're not the only one, I found it confusing as well. Pulled over because out of state plates...having nothing to do with race...

Also, you don't get a speeding ticket for going faster than other cars, you get a speeding ticket for going above the posted speed limit.

Exactly.
The "But mommy, Jimmy and Brenda were doing it too" excuse never got anyone out of a belting nor should it.

Martin Luther King on privilege:

"We [African-Americans] must also realize that privileged groups never give up their privileges voluntarily. If we are victimized with the feeling that we can sit down comfortably by the wayside and wait for the white man to voluntarily give us our justly deserved freedom, we will be the victims of a dangerous illusion, which can only end up in tragic disillusion."

Address at Public Meeting of the Southern Christian Ministers Conference of Mississippi; September 23, 1959

This quote shows that MLK Jr. believed in white privilege. Your turn.
1 up, 4y
What he is talking about is that the racist white with privilege wasn't going to give it up. He never said all whites. He also said to judge people by their character, not their skin color which the modern version of 'white privilege' goes against.

No. Its not judging people by the color of their skin. Its just a fact that white people tend to be more privileged. And IM white. White people who think they are discriminated against tend to be racist
3 ups, 4y
Race should not be an important aspect of any interaction. If you think race plays any factor in a person's convictions and beliefs, you're racist. Period.

I agree with @ImNotHamilton because white people are privileged! I'm white and he/she/they are white, yet you dare to call us racist against other white people? Do you have to worry that you will be passed over for a job you have rightfully earned because of the color of your skin? Do you have to worry that because your parents are from a different country you will be treated as if you weren't born in this country even though you were? Do you have to teach your kids what to do in case of a cop pulling you over, because you are so scared you will be shot because of the color of your skin? Do you have to be scared that your child can be killed, but because of the color of their skin their murderer won't have to face the consequences? DO YOU HAVE TO FACE HATE BECAUSE YOUR NAME SOUNDS MUSLIM? NO. YOU DON'T. That's white privilege.

Have you ever heard of affirmative action, child? Whites get passed over all the time because of their skin color, you are brainwashed.
1 up, 4y
Okay, boomer. Yes, I have heard of affirmative action, and I am not a child. White people may face discrimination, but not because they're white. Also, I think that you may be the "brainwashed" one because you turn a blind eye towards this issue. Affirmative action is defined towards " the practice or policy of favoring individuals belonging to groups known to have been discriminated against previously." This is not discrimination itself, because it says "favoring." Not completely making the decision based on this one fact. This is giving a chance to those that have been previously discriminated against because this will give them a chance to follow their dreams or goals in life. Make up as many excuses as you want, but if I were you, I would choose my words very wisely, my friend.

“Whites, it must frankly be said, are not putting in a similar mass effort to reeducate themselves out of their racial ignorance. It is an aspect of their sense of superiority that the white people of America believe they have so little to learn. The reality of substantial investment to assist Negroes into the twentieth century, adjusting to Negro neighbors and genuine school integration, is still a nightmare for all too many white Americans…These are the deepest causes for contemporary abrasions between the races. Loose and easy language about equality, resonant resolutions about brotherhood fall pleasantly on the ear, but for the Negro there is a credibility gap he cannot overlook. He remembers that with each modest advance the white population promptly raises the argument that the Negro has come far enough. Each step forward accents an ever-present tendency to backlash.”

He didn't misappropriate MLK's legacy. He believed in an integration of us negroes into American life and bemoaned the lack of help those communities were receiving to that end.

Well... now it's 50 years later. All but the most demographically unique communities have schools that are well integrated, there are a multitude of social programs set up - some set up specifically - for us and there are multi-millionaires walking around who look like me. But the majority of us... flunk out of school, squander the money we make or are given and those multi-millionaires tell our children they're oppressed and how cool it is to live the thug life.

MLK's legacy was fulfilled in the late-90s to early 2000s. It's progressive politics and policies that are LITTERALLY REVERSING all that MLK lived and died for. It's our culture that's teaching kids to do drugs, throw down in the streets and treat women like hoes... to go out of their way to screw themselves up at every turn. We are now the ones enslaving ourselves and all at the behest of some well-meaning but ultimately racist politicians.

Of course not. But everything in life is a process and nothing will ever been perfect. Not America... not even the Reverend himself (if you recall some of his human frailties)... but that doesn't mean the message of unity is a bad one. It's a message that we're forgetting more and more... and it won't lead to anything good for any of us.
5 ups, 4y
Let's be clear... that's not what I was saying in the least and I have no clue how you took it that way. Unity... in this specific case, racial unity, means exactly as MLK described in his 'I Have a Dream' speech during his march on Washington.

It doesn't matter what you look like, what matters is what's inside. We're all American... now let's act like it!

Eh? Why is it it "invalid"? Of course it's a valid point; you just disagree with it. If a meme is invalid because the person in the picture "never agreed to" the point, then *all* memes would be invalid.

After all, I don't know if John Krasinski has ever agreed to a single point made in any meme with his picture in it.

That's pure nonsense. I don't think anyone is fooled into thinking that MLK said those exact words, just as they aren't fooled into thinking that MLK was sitting in the Dunder Mifflin office.

With that said, MLK did say, ""I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

This meme is a play on that message but directed at the ugly anti-white racism that is growing in our time. It is a great meme.

4 ups, 4y
No, I'm actually not "proving" it at all. Our conversation has not been about the content of that quote you used. Instead, it's been about using MLK in a Jim Halpert meme, which you are against.
6 ups, 4y,

I do understand where you're coming from on that point. MLK never said a word about "White Privilege"... mainly because it wasn't a thing 50 years ago - that's something invented just recently. He also never considered that Whites would be in such a situation where they were the ones being castigated for their skin color. That still doesn't detract from his overarching message of unity. Through THAT lens, it's sensible to draw the conclusion that he would be as disgusted with our youth as I am these days.
4 ups, 4y,

Actually MLK Jr. did talk about Whites being the wrong end of racism like blacks. In one speech he warned Blacks and other 'minorities' that they weren't immune to the temptations of hatred that claimed the KKK. He said hating Whites is just as bad as those who hate Blacks(or whoever). If anything MLK Jr.'s 'enemy' wasn't the KKK or other white racists but hatred itself.
2 ups, 4y
It's been awhile since I've read the relevant literature and even longer since I was in college but you may be right there. Again, the message that everyone, everywhere should come together rather than be divided out of pettiness and circumstance is quite broad... and the concept of hatred would fit neatly into that overarching concept.

If you have a source in mind, I would take the time to reacquaint myself. It's not pressing but if you have the time or inclination.
5 ups, 4y,
1 reply
What you'll find is allusions to the concept. You'll find words that seem to amount what's being discussed when someone says "white privilege". The term and it's definition is not only relatively new, it changes month to month based on national discourse. That phenomenon isn't unique either... other words that were well established have changed because of this insanity. Remember when racism meant racism? Now it means "power + privilege = I'm right because I'm darker than you". Bull! That mindset breeds resentment and fosters a lazy analytical process in people.

We're not even talking about MLK's vision and debating what the Reverend meant when he called for unity... but if you'd like, I'd be happy to detail how cowardly and slimy it is for people to start changing language and then using semantics to subvert a nation and continue the enslavement of minorities. At least they did away with the chains... now all they have to do is keep us stupid.
