To be fair, we do have a beef with Iran due to their support of Houthis and the Taliban.

Iran never ever supported the Taliban. Ever. In fact, Iran was instrumental in supplying intel utilized in invading Afghanistan back in 2001. You do remember 2001, yes? State Department said it saved some 5 to 6 months of planning. After that war began, George W Bush thanked them by calling them part of the Axis of Evil.

Why did Iran have his Intel thaat could be used for invading Afghanistan? Well that's because Iran was going to invade Afghanistan in the year 2000. The Taliban had invited Iranian diplomats to Afghanistan for peace talks, and 60 of those Iranian diplomats as well as journalists were blown up. By the Taliban. In Afghanistan. In the room they were at for the peace talks.
Thus Iran was about to go to war with the Taliban.

If that war happened, 9/11 would have never occurred. Ironically, we would have been pointing fingers at Iran calling them terrorists. Why didn't the war happen, you ask? The Clinton Administration implored Iran behind closed doors to not to go to war with the Taliban.

Axis of Evil indeed.

We have a beef with a red because of 1979. Literally. That's when Iran stopped being a puppet regime of the US, formally its closest ally in the region, more so than even Israel could ever pretend to be an ally..

Well the whole "we're crazy enough to launch nukes" mentality might have something to do with it.

True that. Trump almost lobbed nukes at Iran in December 2020 - January 2021.
And Israel, of course, threatens to use its illegal nukes as well on Iran.

Excellent point you brought up, and quite factual at that.

Threats to keep countries in line are far different than absolutes from Iran that they'll launch their nukes no matter what.
0 ups, 3h
There are no such absolutes from Iran. There are no such nukes for that matter.

Perhaps you should look into the subject a little further.
0 ups, 2h
Find me an official statement by the Iranian regime to the effect that the moment they get nukes they'll use them to attack Israel (and presumably face the repercussions of Israel obliterating their country with their own nukes), and then I'll be fully in agreement with you.

The Ayatollah has actually repeatedly said nukes are against Islam. Could be full of shit, I agree, and just saying that to avoid scrutiny for their secret nuclear enrichment programme. 👀

So find me quotes.

Who says they're crazy enough to launch nukes? NK has nukes. Have they ever been crazy enough to launch any? No.

Israel has nukes, totally illegally btw. They've never signed the NPT or agreed to inspections. But they're special. Has Israel used nukes?

Iran's leaders have said they're against nukes. Maybe they're full of shit. But they know using nukes would be mutually assured destruction. If even NK isn't crazy enough to deploy them, what makes you think Iran would deploy them immediately?

What's the *only country in human history* that's actually been batshit insane enough to actually use nukes on a civilian population... ?

Shall we all sanction the US? Shall we all invade the US? Given that the US is the only nation on literal earth that's ever been insane enough to actually use nukes?

Let's invade Iran. Even though we don't have credible evidence they even have nukes.

But Israel does btw.

Yes, Iran is the problem.

Totally makes sense.

North Korea knows if they launched nukes at anyone we'd flatten their whole country. That's why they don't launch nukes.
Iran knows this as well, but the difference is they don't care. They are religious extremists that are willing to die to launch a nuke at Israel or the US.

Do you have any evidence to back up this claim? That the Iranian leadership are so unhinged they are trying to get the bomb to engage in a suicide mission, nuke Israel, and have their entire country obliterated so they can presumably become martyrs or sth?

I mean, if you're gonna go out with a bang, might as well make it good. Kim Jong Un, take notes. Read it and weep, Rocket Man. Iran's gonna show you how it's really done. 💪

Correction to my original claim:

Israel hasn't signed the nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty and doesn't allow IAEA inspections, so technically what they're doing is not illegal as per my understanding. Since they're not bound by the rules anyway. That they never agreed to. Can't break the terms of a treaty you never even signed.

They've never even officially confirmed or denied they have nukes, but we all know they do.

Good trick, that.

Iran made the silly mistake of actually signing up to international law and allowing intrusive nuclear weapons inspectors for years. Bad move, Iran.

Takes two to tango.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_to_Arabs

People shout "death to" all kinds of stuff. Even conservatives in the US do it.

Plus chanting it is one thing. Actually blowing people up is another.

And that "Israel should be wiped off the map" quote from years back is well known to be a mistranslation that went viral in the Western media. It was actually the Iranian govt that mistranslated their own speech. Ahmedinejad never said that in Persian. He said the regime in Jerusalem "must vanish from the page of time". Calling for the ending of a regime or saying that it should not exist is not quite the same as saying you're actively going to turn Israel into glass.

The Iranian regime has made lots of similar threats but there's no need to fabricate stuff they didn't say.

Israel also openly calls for toppling the Iranian regime and has assassinated plenty of key figures. I'm not aware that the Iranian secret service has bumped off half of Netanyahu's govt and top scientists along with their wives and kids. 🤔

I fabricated nothing. I stand by my statement you can get all twisted with projecting your love for Iran if you want. Their actions speak louder than your apologist words.
0 ups, 9h
I don't particularly simp for Iran (although it is a great country with a very rich history that has contributed considerably to human civilization) and I certainly don't support their loony theocratic and repressive regime. Neither do tons of Iranians.

But I do care about following international law, the lives of innocents against foreign aggression, and avoiding unlawful invasions that will destabilize an entire region for years to come and likely result in the deaths of countless civilians along with US and Israeli service personnel.

Iran has also committed what appears to be a war crime by bombing a hospital in Israel. But two sides breaking the rules doesn't make either of them right.

"Iran gave the Taliban’s Haqqani network thousands of dollars in bounty payments for every American they killed, United States intelligence agencies told CNN on August 17.

Intelligence officials tracked payments for several years between the Haqqani network, a Taliban-backed group in Afghanistan, and a foreign government, which U.S. officials anonymously identified to the media as Iran.

Iran distributed propaganda leaflets throughout Afghanistan, offering $1,000 for every American soldier killed. “They weren’t hiding it: ‘If you bring us American heads, we will pay you,’” one American official told Business Insider.

Foreign nations paying terrorists to kill American soldiers is not new. At the end of June, U.S. President Donald Trump was accused of ignoring intelligence briefings about Russian bounties supposedly placed on American soldiers in the Middle East. However, National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien has since stated that the president was never briefed on the issue because officials deemed the intelligence reports to be lacking in credibility.

Bounties placed on American soldiers by Iran, in contrast, have existed for much longer and are much more easily proved. They did not begin under the watch of the current administration. They began under former President Barack Obama.

U.S. officials told the media that the payments began in 2010, two years after Obama was first elected. However, no action was taken at the time. “They’ve been sitting on this for years,” an official told Business Insider. “That’s what’s flabbergasting to me, that this is all of a sudden some big problem when it’s been behind the firewall for years at this point. Somebody needs to be held accountable for that."

"When this first came to light in 2010, the Forum for Defense of Democracies wrote, “The only real question is this: What is America’s and the Obama administration’s plan for countering this unholy alliance? The administration certainly knows this is occurring.” Time has proved that the administration chose to do nothing. The article continued:

President Obama’s first director of National Intelligence, Dennis Blair, noted it in written testimony given to the Senate Intelligence Committee in 2009. U.S. military officials have noted it time and again, including in Gen. Stanley McChrystal’s report on Afghanistan last year. The State Department has repeatedly reported on this collaboration in its Country Reports on Terrorism, including in the most recent edition of that report.

While the Obama administration ignored this, President Trump has taken a different approach. By analyzing payments between Iran and the Haqqani network, especially after the December 2019 attack on the Bagram Air Base, American intelligence linked the terrorists’ actions to Iran’s bounty program. The Bagram attack killed two American civilians and wounded 70 other civilians and military personnel. The U.S. has linked the Haqqani network and Iranian bounties to six armed assaults on American military bases in Afghanistan.

President Trump then ordered the killing of the man who masterminded the bounty system and organized the attacks: Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Gen. Qassem Suleimani."
