One need only look at the plethora of other articles for further verification. Fox is even in there for those seeking their patented artificial partisan hack propaganda.
Try this for the roots which actually go beyond simple poverty, etc:

Anyways, from that and another source I heard a year or so ago, basically, what is derisively call "W**** Trash" in the US are folks descended from a poor rebellious criminal class that originated in the borderlands between England and Scotland brought here as penal colonists back in the day. Many settled in Appalachia going southwards, and have displayed criminal & violent tendencies (esp w/guns) as well as terminal unemployment or lack of upward mobility ever since. Granted, Appalachia is somewhat limited in opportunities, but we still see them burdened by these issues after they later radiated westward in the 1800s and then north in the 1900s.
You can literally trace the lineology of this specific demographic back to those British roots four centuries ago. It isn't just some style picked up by the less ambitious in them states over the years. The culture is so ingrained, it has even theorized by some that these less savory behavior patterns might have a genetic component.
Other people settling in that area (such as the descendents of former slaves) immersed in this culture all this time have also displayed a propensity for such behavior, and when they as well as their Brit-American neighbors migrated to northern cities looking for jobs in the 20th Century, they brought it with them, thus inner cities life subject criminality and lack of aspiration not unlike in the rural South.
Chicago, Detroit, NYC, etc, all recieved a large chunk of this 20th Century mass migration. Hence the cities from South to Midwest to Northeast you citied having similar problems with crime. The difference, as you now know, is that down South high rates are also exhibited in more rural areas, which even when subracted of their cities for stats still show higher per capita rates than average regarding homicide and violent crime. Same with what the FBI still calls "the Wild West," as much of that territory is plagued by a degree of lawlessness again, bought to the area by that demographic.
Just look at Trump rallies and the J6 crowd, they all look like generic what, again? That, and their anger and propensity for violence, isn't exactly accidental.
