You don't know what "socialists" want (what kind of socialist anyway? Market Socialist? Juche? Maoist? Dengist? Posadist? Soc-dem, etc...?)
I'm a Richard Wolff kind of Market Socialist btw, I only want every large business to be run like Grupo Mondragón, which means owners and shareholder get to keep their business and make a buck without working on nothing more than delegating on others, pretty much the same as of now but the workers own the company in equal shares.
It's a notion that transcends socialism, as it's a take that most people, even if they're barely leftists and just distantly liberal, or even the few conservatives without Amerobrain worms left, would always agree, albeit with minimal caveats, if at all.
Ah, you must mean the state capitalism of the USSR and China, working under siege and plenty of sanctions from literally the other half of the world, or Latin American countries coup'd the hell outta their bones, whenever anyone too far to the left of Nixon or Reagan, got democratically elected?.
Ah, you must mean Cuba, where after a violent revolution dethroning the United States' colonial governor, AKA, A Different Kind of Beast Batista, the CIA admittedly intervened against the will of the majority of the Cuban people (The French Revolution was nice because bad kings are bad guys in fantasy movies and happened centuries ago, this one isn't all so haram all of a sudden, because the king was our king, and almost everybody knows someone who was alive back then).
The Castrist Regime was artificially turned into a dictatorship, very effectively, and this was a sound, tactical move, appealing to Castro and Guevara's toxic masculinity, whom tried to be defiant of the US, instead of working for democratic reforms, which could've been a much more likely scenario is not for the US, purposely impoverishing Cubans instead of simply, MAJOR GASP!, allow socialism to fail on its own..., unless, DOUBLE WHAMMY GASP!!! Socialism is the perfect checks and balances mechanism to a free market economy, as already explained by Marx and many other dialectical materialist philosopher has.
But yeah, I guess that all you need to criticize an ideology that's hundred of years old (Socialist experiments were tried before the word socialism existed, one of the most and, probably the oldest example, is how Portuguese and Spanish Jesuits pioneered anarchist like, self sufficient communes, until both empires joined forces to crack down on them).
