Servicemen get RIBBONS, NOT BADGES. Nadges are for identification,amd accomplishments. Ribbons and medals are for awards.

Airmen get ribbons because bombers use thier TACAN to get across the country, in an actual bombing sorti. They never saw combat, but supported the mission....viola, ribbon for combat.
