I'll never understand this bizarre idea that marijuana smoke is harmless but cigarette smoke is harmful. They contain all of the same carcinogens and some are in higher concentrations in marijuana smoke.

So if they are going to ban tobacco they must ban smoking marijuana.

Any organic compound that is burnt will produce pretty much the same mix of carcinogens just in different concentrations. Not to mention that all smoke contains carbon monoxide which leads to heart disease.

The only reason why you never hear of the health problems associated with marijuana is because most people don't chain smoke marijuana and some marijuana smokers also smoke cigarettes.

I used to see memes all over the internet about how marijuana hasn't killed anyone while tobacco and alcohol has killed x number of people. I even got into an argument with a friend of mine who claimed marijuana was harmless.

That lie was spread all over the place for awhile. I haven't seen any of those memes in a few years so maybe everyone realized how wrong it is to think it is harmless.

That makes sense. I've never smoked pot but from I understand it is impossible to OD on it.

My wife heard of an illness that I have heard of from heavy pot smoking. It is called cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. It causes vomiting and nausea and the only relief is from hot showers.

It is not life threatening and it can be cured by stop smoking pot. You have to smoke at least 20 days per month to get it and only about 1/3 pot smokers who smoke that much get it.

In Jr.HS, we heard formaldehyde contained some of the same chemicals as PCP. So we swiped a vialful from the biology lab and soaked our rolling papers in it, dried them, and rolled joints... I never did find out if this was true or not, but I do seem to recall a sensation of walking down the street several inches above the pavement. Does that count? 🤔

I dont think banning either is the best option. marijuana isnt addictive and hasnt ever been marketed to children. Though it has been thought of as a bridge to other hard drugs that have long lasting effects that are bad, weed has soothing affects and can be thought of as a natural anti depressant

If you smoke pot then you are taking several carcinogens and carbon monoxide into your body. That is just a fact. There is no way to try to make smoking pot into a beneficial drug. In addition it destroys brain cells and adversely affects memory.

So it might be an anti-depressant until you find out you have heart disease or emphysema. If you are a heavy pot smoker cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome can certainly take away your happiness while you are suffering nausea and vomiting.

This may be the biggest clue as to where I live. While, medical marijuana is legal in my state, that’s about it. My state’s law enforcement have been very transparent in their political involvement to keep it illegal and here is the rub. Everyone smokes it.

Everyone old enough, at least.

It’s grown and sold in the rural areas and law enforcement looks the other way. If we’re caught with it, and you’re a young pup, all you get is a slap on the wrist. Maybe a notification by the parents if too young. Children smoking it is just unacceptable to say the least. Hence why we keep it on the down low.

There is one exception, of course. The law is followed to the letter if you are a black person who is caught with it. No matter how young or old. Or you’re in mixed company. You get that book thrown at you. It is an unwritten rule and practically everyone knows it.

How do we get away with it? It’s simple. The police who speak out against legalizing it are also black. And the mob just doesn’t care if a guy grows his own weed and sells to his friend. Catch and release. But you try to be a big fish? Then you get mounted on the wall.

Personally, I’m not a fan of the stuff. It just seems too much trouble than it’s worth but no pothead has ever done me wrong.

I'd bet the vast majority of people people do. Like alcohol though, too many people are addicted to it. That addiction is the overriding reason people smoke, but deep down I'm sure most people hate 'em.

Well, smoking is a bad habit period, bad for your health, the health of others and also the environment. Your statement is missing the context of the marijuana being used is for medicinal purposes. So you are comparing an item used for medicinal purposes against something that is just bad all the way.

I get that, The government wants the people uneducated and drugged up, government does wants to control people. But smoking is bad, and only benefits the tobacco companies. I am amazed that people still smoke this year. So compared to all the other things that are happening right now, this one is the lesser evil and actually has a wind of good.

I totally agree with you that smoking is not good for people, Fauscovai, and we probably agree more than we disagree. But I also think that we live in a free country and people are allowed to make their own choices in life. I do not believe it is government's JOB to raise us or our children and I don't want government to tell us what to do. Life is about choices. It is a poor choice to smoke, IMO, but we are given the right to make poor choices in America. We are slowly losing our freedom of speech and that is why I am vehemently against Democrats along with their incessant NEED to control EVERY ASPECT of our lives. This "lesser evil" is just 'another method to control us'.

That is true, people should be allowed to make their own choices. I still find it kinda trivial with all the stuff Cali and NY are going through where small to medium size businesses are getting hit hard by the lockdowns. I mean people should be allowed to do what they want as long as they are not negatively affevting others. Smoking by yourself in your own appartment should not be penaluzed, is ridiculous that they do. I smoking in public for example is rude passing that second hand smoking. That is the angle i am looking at it. So yes I agree with you, but look, it is a democrat state. People and businesses are leaving to other states like Texas and Tennesee because the shiat hole those states are. I think 2021 will be an eye opener for Biden voters, some hard lessons will be learned at a personal cost to them.

Medical marijuana doesn’t have to be smoked. In fact it’s more effective if it’s just eaten.
