The problem is that you can't get a degree from the library, and you can't get high paying jobs without a degree.

Sure, go ahead and point out examples of jobs that don't require a degree, and wealthy entrepreneurs with only a HS diploma. When you're done, recognize that these folks are not the majority. Just like lots of people play guitar, but only a small percentage actually make a living with it. Are you in the top .5%, Mr. Dance Major?

Not that I support this. College is a racket. Gooogle up a chart showing the rise in college tuition plotted over inflation rates, and you will see what I mean. Most diplomas have a line about the degree being conferred "together with all the rights and privileges thereunto" --- what rights?! The right to hunt for a job? It is a bullshit system that benefits those at the top.

I agree with you (mostly). Student loans kept demand high, artificially, which kept costs higher. The other let down is that not all degrees lead to jobs where those student loans can be paid-off (or any job for that matter).

It is quite possible to work your way through a degree in a smaller school. But that takes a lot of sacrifices. For youngsters it is reasonable. If you’re young & got married early, not as easy. Or if you made bad choices or are an underage single parent your odds of success decrease a lot.

There are also scholarships, the GI Bill, the Peace Corps, and other programs. Yes, the richer people have it easier with more access due to money and their connections. But where there is a will, there is a way. Most people are not completely shut out.

Before demanding free access which will likely create a mediocre but equal education system (like our public schools); let’s seek out the knowledge ourselves. Heck, you can learn a lot on the internet. But we honor ability & talent for doing sports over our minds. People would rather do sports as you can obviously ‘see’ and recognize that physical prowess more so than a highly trained and fit mind.

Again, That solves nothing. I can know everything there is to know about computer science, but if I don't have a college degree, I don't have a job.

It's a pretty stupid system.

With an applied science like that, can’t you use your skills to build a nice portfolio and show it off on social media?

A degree is an accepted indication of knowledge and skill. Is there no other way to prove you know your stuff?

Many large software companies are unwilling to hire a candidate if the candidate does not have workplace or internship experience. It's a pretty f**ked up system; many entry level jobs require workplace experience. Nowadays college is one of the only ways to get an internship at a software company.

And plus, some large companies might not even call you back if you do not have a degree (however good your coding skills might be). That's because the computer science field for big companies is very competitive.

Of course, if you have good coding skills and good connections, you might be able to be hired without a degree.

College degree. You have to have a college degree to get a good job, you could theoretically create your own business, but that usually fails.
1 up, 3y
I know some very successful people without college degrees. Now, there are certainly instances when you MUST have a college degree. Doctors. Dentists. Engineers. I won’t argue that.

However, if we assume that by “good job”, you mean “good PAYING job,” there are plenty of examples of folks who have carved out careers in sales, coding, construction... etc. who all make excellent wages.

Additionally, why must businesses fail? If that is “usually” the case, how come some people (again, plenty of examples both with and without degrees) seem to be able to consistently build businesses and do very well, while other people couldn’t build a profitable business with the “right” degrees and millions of dollars in start up capital? What do you think makes the difference?

"You have to have a college degree to get a good job" False, most of today's richest entrepreneurs do not have a college degree. Did Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg have college degree? (Note I am giving you examples from this time, not centuries ago, those are VERY fresh)

0.05 percent don't count, and things have changed from when they were kids.
1 up, 3y
where do you get your numbers yo?! 0.05 percent really?! Most rich people do not have a college education, it all started with them saying f**k college. I provided you 3 easy examples(compared to how many billionaires are in united states that is MUCH higher than .05% SMH). If you are resourceful (clearly you aren't guessing a .05%) and can self educate yourself > you getting in a HUGE debt+paying for lots of classes you are never going to need+shows that you are not resourceful+not even a guaranteed job. So, yeah, colleges are a scam, and a thing of the past. Getting multiple certificates + experience is cheaper and yields much better results than a college degree at this age. You go and get yourself in debt and get your little paper, don't be angry that when you get a job there is someone else without a degree making just as much or more.
1 up, 3y
If you really think a degree is a prerequisite for a job (I still say there are exceptions), one can get certifications or just an Associates degree and do pretty well. Also, if you gain knowledge yourself, you can often test out towards a degree or test out for an employer or government job such as civil service. I do agree that companies rely too heavily on degrees as it makes the HR job easier. A lot of people in the computer, software & electronic industries have practical knowledge over education but it’s admittedly waning.
2 ups, 3y
Most companies now just care that you have certificates you can achieve from 4-8 week courses of training unless you are going to be a doctor or a lawyer. They care more that you can do the job and that you can learn fast/resourceful than having a paper with that says "I cant train myself and need someone to train me" "I have no experience and cant do shiat". This comes from USAA at one of the courses I attended with them, but many companies are like that now, specially when it comes to IT. As a developer who just got out of college but can't code, you will be drowning in tears and debt when you see someone with no college degree but can code get the job. Colleges are a joke now and completely unnecessary, most of what they teach is years behind.

Also in socialist countries, like Cuba which has top free education for example (and giving you the VERY best example, since they have THE very best medical schools in the WORLD). Everyone and their cats have a degree, yet they can't find jobs, are starving, fleeing the country. and you see doctors driving taxies to survive. Because "when everyone is super, no one is" Quote from the Incredibles. Someone is going to have to fill those jobs. Humanity works with supply and demand. You have a city population 5000 and 4800 people in that city have doctor degrees, you are going to have starving doctors. This is a REALITY lefties turn their face away and pretend it is not there. I have made my case and sited some examples, still think FREE college degree is the answer to all?
1 up, 3y
Is that directed at me? If so, then I have done a poor job of expressing myself. I do not think college degrees should be free. If it were free, it would not be valued. I do think that colleges have become a festering pit of indoctrination, and that their "education" is not worth the price. Degrees are required for many professional positions, and those attending college have no effective way of holding these clowns accountable. I think that the degrees and education are overvalued, not that they should be free.

Find a school to negotiate advanced placement of some sort when your self learning is complete. Get a job in addition to work your way through. There are also loans but I’d only suggest those as a last resort or to finish your last year or semester if aid, grants, scholarships or all used up. You might also find work as an apprentice or probationary if you prove you have the knowledge but not the actual degree yet. You could be an assistant to an Engineer (technician) or a Doctor etc.

There are foreigners who come to the US & work hard to pay for and eventually get a degree, sometimes even a medical degree.

But that requies being able to read AND understand...and I'm afraid but that is a skill none of the Trumptards has or will ever manage.

If there is a comicbook section for toddlers there might be a chance to see one of them, although...grown-up men in the children's section are highly suspicious. Especially with the knowledge that Trump himself has required Epsteins "services".

So you have nothing to respond to that other than a dimwitted insult about an untrue statement? Sounds plausable to me considering everything else I see in this stream

Sure I do. For example, the statement he made was untrue, I quote "But that requies being able to read AND understand...and I'm afraid but that is a skill none of the Trumptards has or will ever manage."
My comment refuted what pussypop said and my meme proved it.

You forgot that progressive Liberals are consuming comic books for adults.

Not faking to look into a book for kids while hoping to catch a glimpse of the undies they wear like you and your Trumpturd friends are constantly doing...like leader, like followers, right?

P.S.: That ugliness you are displaying with that pic of yours should be outlawed and punished with post-natal abortion. ;-))

hey pussypop...that sounds like you are speaking from personal experience.
Folks...you know when ever someone from the left accuses someone from the Right of some malfeasence it is usually because the guy on the Left is already guilty of doing it themselves.

Shall I tell the folks about what you had told me a few days ago? With or without the parts which are revealing who you are?

It's obvious that you - like Trump, by the way - are making last ditch efforts to save whatever you think is worth saving, but face it: you are done for good.
No real American patriot is supporting a Nazi. You can blabber all day long about your figment of me being a Communist (without ever having given any credible proof BTW) and that people like me are out to destroy the USA while you and the fascist organizations you are so desperately clinging on in search for friendships are the real threat to a free America.

Yes, you are the traitor. You sold yourself and the ideals of this great country because you are the loner nobody likes. You are the Incel being filled with hate against what you think should be rightfully yours although not even a female hobo would touch you with a ten-foot pole.

And guess what? Even the hardcore Trumptards are turning away from you. They may be Conservative Republicans with a major case of TDS but still not crazy or dumb or both enough to support fascism and poor real life loser Nazis of your kind.

If they could see you in real life...like I have said, you're a goner.

Please do tell anyone anything I told you. As if we had a special secret. You are so blatantly neurotic it’s laughable. I never say anything I’m ashamed of so j have no fear. The truth will set you free. Too bad you don’t know what the truth is. I don’t need to give proof you stated the proof on your own. You slipped up in your angry insult rants and admitted you weren’t an american after portraying yourself as one. So you see baby Stalin that I am not “done“ by any means regardless of the outcome of the election, I am here in opposition to you and your brethren catpiss. See I am an American, and these colors don’t run from communists or globalist shitbags like you. Pack a lunch because this fight hasn’t even begun comrade.

Ohhh lookie here! Free college is exactly what I am doing a report on right now. I would copy and paste my document here, but I have a feeling your limited literary skills would just skip it. Go off to the library to get an education and a degree! Oh wait.... you wouldn't be able to read that stuff. carry on then! cheers!
2 ups, 3y
Let me know when you graduate from writing reports to writing academic papers and I will consider reading it (even as an undergraduate). At least in the States there is a difference between a report and a paper. Not sure of where you are from so there might not be a difference between them where you are.

Most of the critical skills that I used on the job I learned on my own. An undergraduate degree barely summarizes generalities of a field. Experience and self-study is actually king due to necessity. Nothing wrong with self-learning and being self-sufficient. Or do you deride those without degrees? It would seem so. That’s very troubling.
1 up, 3y
Oh, good idea! Next time I'm broke and want a Bachelor's Degree, I'll waltz on over to the library and get one! Oh, wait... you can't. Free education is important for the poor to have the essential skills they need to get a job and stop being poor.
