Too much politics and politicians playing with people's lives. Using children as pawns in a game but then turn their back on children when it comes to Planned Parenthood. We have laws and should be followed.

There's a huge difference between supporting a woman's right to chose for herself and stealing peoples' children and giving them away and not letting them go back to their families. You can deflect away but it's not going to work. These children are being drugged, abused, traumatized, handed off to strangers, and YOU'RE ok with this. Do any of you have kids? I'd really like to know how heinous the hypocrites are on this page. Show of hands. Who has kids here?

Because none, zero, zip, zed, nada pictures are allowed to be taken from this currrent crisis.

But that is an excellent point you bring up, since the 2014 pics do not show the children crying in confusion and terror over the aspect of being wrenched from parents with no explanation and locked up en masses with no comfort.

It's a fetus being developed. Just because it will grow into a child in the future doesn't make it a child in the womb. Is an acorn an oak tree? Is a pile of lumber a house?

If you saw what goes on in a slaughterhouse would you become a vegan? An abortion is a medical procedure. Medical procedures aren't rainbows and sunshine and unicorns.
reply
3 ups, 2 replies
A pile of lumber may also be oak if that is the species, and may be dead or still dying. A pile of lumber may still be home to a host of critters, from parasites in the wood to bugs and rodents, etc.

The point is that terms applying to a stage of development are exactly and only that, as they are a matter of perspective as suits our propensity to label things and our personal preference and convenience.
reply
2 ups, 1 reply
I don't deny that a fetus is a human being *in development*, but that doesn't mean it should be treated the same as a full-term baby (in my opinion, anyway)
reply
1 up, 1 reply
Shouldn't be treated or as we choose for it to be treated...?

If a pregnant woman is attacked and the unborn dies, that's a murder charge.

But I'm not going to echo these so-called pro-lifers who holler that a fetus should live but then that forced altruism abruptly ends once that baby enters a world where it is unwanted by parents, family, and society at large because the parents should have known better than to begat a child with no future in the first place (according to their mindset).
If any of them seriously tries to pretend they would put the life of a fetus on the same plane as their own or their family, etc, or would risk the same for one, they're lying. If slogans tug at their heart more than a child crying for its mother does, that's fair indication of how horribly hollow their heart beats.
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
I don't think a fetus and a newborn should be viewed the same way, especially a fetus in the very early stages of development.
1 up
To me they are the same.

But in terms of viewing, would be like as someone in a coma in a hospital on fire. Who is anyone going to rescue first? Doubtful pro lifers would feel more compelled to rescue a fetus than a newborn or a child or adult crying in front of them.

I think you went off the rails. Why is Mexico willing to supply drugs to America? Coincidentally, they think America stole land from them and have vowed to get it back. If they didn't produce the drugs and sell them, guess what? No drug cartels enslaving villages in Mexico forcing people to produce or smuggle them into America! No violence for their people! Mexico would actually come closer to being a first world country. The drug cartels eff up both their own country and ours, but it's all America's fault, huh? Just because we want to buy something that's bad for us doesn't justify the actions of those that sell it to us.
Mexico has capitalism but drug dealers don't want to put in an honest day's work. Drug cartels are made up of greedy bastards who don't give two sh*ts about anyone or anything except $$$.

Democrats manipulated their supporters into believing catch and release was some kind of mercy to the illegal immigrants when in fact it was an extremely dangerous practice motivated by greed.

As you said, children would be left to fend for themselves as opposed to being put in detention centers where they could have received shelter, clothing, food, education, legal representation, entertainment, and the possibility of being allowed to enter the country legally. Same goes for adults.

Why would they release them? Because every dollar the Democrats use in their equations comes from taxes. Taxes that get spent taking care of illegal immigrants. Democrats had more money to spend when they abandoned illegal immigrants at the border.

Wake up liberals. You're being lied to by your leaders.

In 1980, under pressure to begin construction on what would become his signature project, Donald J. Because - they were being VERY CAREFUL to keep the press - and sitting Senators - from getting any photos of the Trump/Sessions era jails.

A big difference between tbe two policies - is that under Obama - who was JUST as bad as Trump on immigration policies generally - deporting more people than Bush 43 - is that the kids stuck in holding cells were usually coming into the country unaccompanied - often to join relatives already here - into whose custody the Obama administration did a good job of releasing them, pending an immigtation hearing.

By contrast Sessions admitted that this was an attempt to chill people excercising the Human Right - to seek Asylum.

SO they DELIBERATELY chose a policy to split children from parents - an act of child abuse - for political purposes.

That was funny. Quite a 'cult of personality' he has developed there.

So this all goes back to another epoch of immigrant-bashing and scape-goating (Reagan/Ed Meese) - where a 20 day maximum was agreed to as part of a consent decree for holding unaccompanied minors - found crossing the border. The key difference here, was separating parents from their children. So Trump will now jail them together... (Baby steps) - while violating the 20 day rule and asking congress and the courts for permission to do so - even though he'll do it anyway.

At lrast they aren't being strip-searched and oogled on a daily basis.

Right-wing christian america was founded by protestants fleeing europe from the catholic church, and fleeing england after starting a holy war there they lost. It seems the irony of anti-immigration right-wing "christians" is too subtle for the Trump sockpuppets.

Maybe there are independent voters or democrats or whatever out there who just believe in wrong or right. If you are illegally coming into the country guess what? You’re breaking the law. justice without mercy is cruelty.

Law is all about precedent. What is decided now is based on what was decided before. Nothing is written in stone, because laws are like clay vessels that are molded and remolded over time to properly protect and keep people in check. If the law was all that there was without any room for mercy or exception, there would be no need for lawyers to argue a case, or a judge to weigh someone's deeds and hand out punishment. Laws are fluid and meant to act as boundaries, and to reflect common sense. When people put the law above common sense and human decency, they don't understand what the Law means.
reply
5 ups, 2 replies
So what I. The term illegal immigration or illegally entering the country is beyond the realm of common sense? You get pulled over first thing asked is id. Boarding a plane overseas? Gotta have a passport. Laws are laws and neither of these are beyond the realm of decency or common sense. Try seeing things as they are and not just seeing things to fit your narrative.

what narrative? I'm not american, but in civilized nations we treat every human being with decency if they are in need of help. You live in a country where smoking pot can get you put in jail for years because they didn't want to take a "legal" drug that kills you like Oxycontin.

The conclusion: Modern American laws are corrupt and made to protect the welfare of corporations. The fact you so easily fall in line with corruption is disappointing, and that is why the world shakes it's head at the USA. You're sheep that follow psychopaths.

You spout that "jealous" word around a lot. Hi, American Anarchist here--also a former Christian who does know what she's talking about. You who cannot seem to have a meaningful conversation with an outsider looking in has no place in civil debate. Especially if your only argument is "you must be jealous." If anything, that person is taking pity on people like you who are so blind to the horrific events going on in our country. You claim to be Christian, yet you do the opposite of what your Christ has preached that you do. You have no compassion for anyone or anything, and that is why you resort to petty insults and circular arguments. You repeat the rhetoric of "our" racist and bigoted president who wants so desperately to become President for Life and undo the works of his predecessor not because they were bad policies, but because Trump hates Obama--he has made that explicitly clear. You have the audacity to call another man's home a "shithole," not because it actually is a shithole, but because you heard your ignorant leader call it a shithole. Also, as a Christian, why are you allowing the word "shithole" to come out of the same mouth that praises your god? That is vehemently mentioned in the bible--by your Messiah, no less--as "Hypocrisy," you should look that one up. I am no longer a Christian, but you should not tarnish the name of good, true Christians by calling yourself one and then resorting to the hatred that your book is adamantly against.

In conclusion, that non-Christian, non-American knows more about what you claim to be than you do. If he didn't, you would have a better argument against them instead of something so weak and frail as "you're jealous." Get over yourself and check your privilege.

You CANNOT be forced to take carry or have an ID - in the United States of America. As it was put in Huston vs. Hill - this is what separates us from a POLICE STATE. One which you seem in a hurry to bring about - here.

Flying is not an inalienable right - it is de facto interstate commerce - and governed by treatiez as well.

I saw elsewhere, some remark about Trillions in debt... Why not look in the Pentagon's couch cushions - they seem to have misplaced $21TRILLION, in recent years.

People fleeing the terror we inflict upon their nations are not "Illegal Immigrants" - they are refugees and Asylum seekers.

Leviticus 19 : 33 - 34 deals specifically with the standards by which decent people are to live. I agree with everything that guy is saying. And I am a Californian, and a Quaker.

Unfortunately, people are fleeing because rents are 'TOO DAMN HIGH!' - but poor people comong from Central America and Mexico aren't causing the price spike. The problem is too many RICH folks (coming here for good jobs) paying higher and higher prices for a limited supply. Meanwhile LUXURY housing os what's being built - to cash-in on the shortage of housing - not affordable housing. Hell on the block I grew up on in Venice - 1 story SFR that sold for under 500k long ago got resold when the owner died for more than $1million - torn down and replaced by a 3 story luxury mini-mansion... Current price they want for it...$7million. This is caused by a corruptAF city (Council District 11 - Bonin - D- from the spookyAF Jane Harman-machine), GREEDY developers and realty speculators...
So, in essence -the vicious cycle of CAPITALISM... Not the 'socialism' you might like to rail against.

Iit's illegal for illegals to collect welfare because it's, well, illegal.

Although George W Bush's plan to give them legal status would have extended all benefits - including Social Security - to then even while citizenship was still pending. That's SS, SSI, SSD - WITHOUT paying into it, as required by everyone else.

Let us deal with MS13 and their ilk and we might be more willing to provide sanctuary for decent people who are just trying to escape the cartels. Truth is, there is no more room in this world for criminals that **pe, sex traffic, make and sell meth, or simply kill innocent people. Eliminate that portion of society, and cherish those who just want a better world to live in. But we’re talking about a country that would not extradite someone like El Chapo unless the death penalty was off the table. So they are suffering from their own enablement of the cartels.

On the flip side, America, like any other nation on earth, has a right to enforce its borders. There exists no RIGHT to immigrate. That privilege is the pretogative if the receiving country to grant.

Pew Hispanic Center is imaginary, okay. So basically you consider anything that doesn't support your idea imaginary. And in case you are geographically inept, Mexico, Central America, and South America are to the SOUTH. Millions of illegal immigrants coming from there. A couple tens of thousands from the north. Maybe you failed math, but that ratio is incredibly lopsided. That you call us brainwashed is absolutely hilarious, when you ignore facts even when they come from a source YOUR side considers completely reliable.

As of 2014 estimated numbers:
Mexico: 6,640,000 (55%)
El Salvador: 700,000 (6%)
Guatemala: 640,000 (5%)
India: 430,000 (4%) - I was surprised by this one, to be fair.
Honduras: 400,000 (3%)
Philippines: 360,000 (3%)
China: 270,000 (2%)
Korea: 250,000 (2%)
Vietnam: 200,000 (2%)
Dominican Republic: 180,000 (1%)
Other: 2,050,000 (19%) - this includes 65,000 to 75,000 illegal Canadians.

And you have a problem with Brown people and spanish speakers. Canadians come here illegally and work all the time - but you don't notice or care - it would seem. HENCE - racist policy.

And what about DRUG SMUGGLERS and Cartels - you know - "BAD HOMBRES". People have been smuggling contraband through Canada going back to at least the prohibition era.

I posted actual immigration numbers a few posts up from both 2012 and 2014. "Canadians come here illegally and work all the time" If you mean 65,000-75,000 of them vs. the MILLIONS that come across the southern border, sure. But I'm sure because those small numbers of Canadians are white, they somehow equal the millions of Latin Americans in your eyes. Who is actually the racist here? The people who count one person as one person when coming to immigration numbers(the honest approach), or the one who apparently gives more weight to white immigrants than others.
reply
1 up, 1 reply
If you're going to cut off illegals then do it for all of them. You're the one giving less weight to Canadian immigrants because you're assuming they're white under the guise of "oh they're numbers are smaller." 70k is still a lot of people. And newsflash, not everyone coming across the northern border are white. Are your estimates inclusive of both borders or do they separate them out? Do they include those coming in by air and staying or are these estimates focusing solely on the overall numbers? How many are going or getting sent back? How many are dying on the way over or after getting here? How many become naturalized? How many start working, consuming and paying back into the economy? How many have produced offspring that have made or will make great contributions to this society? You all want to propagandize immigration as something that's only negative and immigrants as just jumping on welfare and voting Democrat the minute they get here. Its this narrow-minded thinking that fuels your base. This is what exposes YOUR racism.
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
Yeah, I said none of those things. I simply stated the fact that more people are coming from Latin America than from Canada. That is the INDISPUTABLE. Their contribution once they reach us is IRRELEVANT. They broke the law SIMPLY BY COMING the way they did. Your original question was about why nobody is pushing for a wall on the northern border. Because the amount coming across it is MINISCULE compared to the southern border, and walls are EXPENSIVE. Put them where they will do the most good.
reply
1 up, 1 reply
Because walls can get jobs, and make discoveries, inventions, and patronize local businesses, and pay taxes, and consume products, and build roads, hospitals and schools, keep your yards looking beautiful, join the military and fight for your freedom...You should nominate Trump's damn wall for the Nobel Peace

Book Summary:
An award-winning historian untangles the roots of America's culture of fear, and argues that it imperils our democracy.

For the last sixty years, fear has seeped into every area of American life: Americans own more guns than citizens of any other country, sequester themselves in gated communities, and retreat from public spaces. And yet, crime rates have plummeted, making life in America safer than ever. Why, then, are Americans so afraid - and where does this fear lead to?

In this remarkable work of social history, Elaine Tyler May demonstrates how our obsession with security has made citizens fear each other and distrust the government, making America less safe and less democratic. Fortress America charts the rise of a muscular national culture, undercutting the common good. Instead of a thriving democracy of engaged citizens, we have become a paranoid, bunkered, militarized, and divided vigilante nation.

This is more than immigration politics, it’s just another reason to attack Trump. And hey, Trump wasn’t my first choice either. But he was a better choice than Hillary, IMO. It probably isn’t much of a choice anyway if they both work for the banking elite. It’s always a “choice” of two evils. Genocide in Guatemala was a result of CIA instigation utilizing Honduran militias against Guatemalan President Jacobo Arbenz who wanted to redistribute land in order to help end peasant poverty. This upset Chiquita Bananas's parent, United Fruit Company, because it would have taken the land they got their produce from and cost them more to pay for bananas.

Have you never heard the term BIPARTISAN CONSENSUS -before?

The Democrats may NEVER stop - but they are hardly the only warhawks and interventionists in Congress.

The progressive left has been pushing back against US interventionism since Vietnam at the least. Meanwhile John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen et al - never saw a war, intervention or destabilization campaign that they didn't like.

Our pro - FASCIST policies in Latin America are particularly a right wing affair - with key proponents like Otto Reich and Roger Noriega, in charge.

As we meme - the Trump administration is openly speaking of overthrowing a Democratically elected government in Venezuela, with high levels of popular support - except with our oiligarch pals - in spite of a campaign of destabilization that goes back more than a decade.

I'm against the bipartisan US policy of interfering in Latin America - as are most Democratic party voters (of which I am NOT one - save on rare occasions).

I won't argue there are names in the Republican party that are very hawkish (in fact it's why I voted for Obama in 2008, I couldn't stomach the idea of McCain being our CIC), but overall republican policy in the modern day is isolationist, not interventionist. The hawkish republicans of decades ago have lost most of what sway they had. McCain is a pariah among republicans at the moment because he has opposed virtually everything the new administration has tried to do, and agreed with the democrats on virtually everything. That old-line of republicans are no longer really relevant. Find a modern republican with a good sized backing that wants to intervene in more foreign countries and I'll be legitimately surprised. As far as the Venezuelan government having high levels of popular support.. have you not been keeping up with events there? High level of public support, lol. Not that I think we should get involved, mind you.

https://youtu.be/lMeli0BA3UA - Abby Martin is journalist who goes there and talks to people. Most US press comes either directly from the oligarchs and US organized "opposition" that fuels the unrest in that country - or directly from the STATE Dept. Even the "liberal" LA TIMES has a "special correspondent" filing stories about Venezuela - from Bogota Colombia.

I was an active journalist from back in the early 2000's - when this regime change in Venezuela kick went into high gear. The line has always been the same. Even before our sanctions were crippling their economy. To be sure there are real problems there - mostly caused by the collapse of oil prices as Abby Martin says. What she DOESN'T get into is why oil prices are so low. Saudi Arabia is keeping volume of production high - to target Russia, Iran and Venezuela - in conjuction with OUR foreign policy targeting those countries. The costs per barrel on the market are therefore close to - or below those countries costs of production. They'te doing it on purpose. Russia and Iran are more diversified economically - and so they're being hurt less. In Venezuela - aside from the State run oil business - the oligarchs (who used to run the oil game) own most of the rest of the economy. And as Abby points out - they're the ones trying to overthrow the government - which had 90% support or better under Chavez - at a time when our President was put into office by a 5-4 of the Supreme Court - and some sleight of hand by his cousin at Fox news, working with Katherine Harris.

Lindsey Graham is a big interventionist. I don't know who is big on the GOP these days - by your standards... But with all three branches sown-up - you'd think that we'd be seeing some let-up, if that anti-interventiinist thread was legit. Aside from Rand Paul - Indon't hear anyone making those noises. Instead they seem to be doubling down - aside from Trump. And they seem to be circling around him like tbe Senators in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.

So, the UN is now investigating Venezuela for killing it's own citizens and jailing them for voicing out discontent. Venezuela will not give the UN investigators access to the nation. Which part of this engenders high public support? Seems like just another murderous regime following the same old playbook
reply
1 up, 2 replies
Are you suggesting that the US has never killed any of itz own citizens? MLK, RFK, JFK, Black Panthers and Malcolm X would ALL speak to the contrary - if they could. But the record speaks loudly enough.

As for the current state of affairs in Venezuela. How about a link to the reports you're citing. The "opposition" (a US/CIA funded, and coordinated, venture - which uses representatives from the displaced elites, and former oligarchy, as front-men - the ones that aren't living in Miami with the loot they stole from the country) has been stirring up riots, and ACTIVELY attempting to overthrow a Democratically elected Government - by force. That will get you arrested just about anywhere on Earth.

I haven't heard about their exclusion of the UN - I can imagine that they have their reasons. Why don't you ask Nikki Haley about their legitimacy... She doesn't speak highly - of those CRITICAL of US Policy.

Venezuela is currently undergoing major upheavals. People are responding to the effects of shortages and OUR SANCTIONS. The media there is and HAS BEEN notoriously negative - about a Government that's been consistently popular - until quite recently.

There are NO DOUBT, some issues - but from here it is very hard to tell which ones are legitimate - and which are simply part of the PSYOPS and regime-change operations orchestrated from the US.

The high public support is measured at elections - which the Carter Center rates above our own - for their fairness, free-ness, openness and legitimacy. They won't certify OURS because we've killed our exit polling - and use closed source "BLACK BOX", "proprietary" tabulation software in the count.

In a RIOT - police restore Civil Order. That often leads to deaths - tragic as that maybe. Without some report to see what you're referring to - I have no idea about the circumstances.

Donald Rumsfeld sold them a reactor in the 90's. The whole thing would be a tempest in a teacup (of our creation)... Except for the fact that the Korean War never ended. The Bipartisan consensus for Regime Change was/is his motivation to have nukes in the first place. Itz called having a credible deterrent.

Larry Wilkerson agrees with you - but I hope for a legitmate and lasting peace - and unification. To the extent that tha' Donald could achieve that - he would actually be bucking the system (for the first time). So I'm hoping that it leads to something.

The reason that Tillerson was getting frustrated was Trump's ratcheting-up of hostilities. In the end it drove the S. Koreans to seek peace - rather than being the 'collateral damage' - in a needeless nuclear exchange between the US and the North.

Once N.Korea denuclearizes... We'll be the only Nuclear armed force on the peninsula. We have tactical/artllery nukes positioned there. And Naval capabilities all around the Pacific. Not to mention the ICBM's and bombers in our "triad".

Better relations with Russia are a positive. Encircling them with bases and overthrowing sattelites in their sphere of influence are provocative actions on our part.

You know we used ACTUAL NAZIs to overthrow Ukraine - right? Ray McGovern of Veteran Intelljgence Professionals for Sanity has spoken about all the Nat'l Endowment for "Democracy" "sub-projects" that we had going-on there. Prof. Emeritus Stephen Cohen of Princeton is the voice MSNBC doesn't want anyone to hear - about our aggressive actions towards Russia. But he shows up on Democracy Now! quite a bit.

Putin may not be a liberal Democrat (but judging by all the shit that Obama and $hillary got away with while the left slept...neither are they), but trying to submit him and Russia only strengthens his hand domestically - and gives him more lattitude for repressive measures. He has legitimate support at home because of the boogeyman we present to them.

The goal of a war with Russia was always a NEOCON plan. They were always arguing that glasnost and perestroika was just a ruse - and that once we dropped our guard Russia would begin their advance. That's complete bullshit. It's a 'let's you-and-him fight' scenario that destroys the two of us - and leaves Isreal and Britain as nuclear superpowers.

As MLK put it - 'My nation is the greatest source of death and violence on the planet' - and history has gone on to prove him right. That may have been the speech that got him killed... That and the poor peoples' campaign - which people have begun once again. The pentagon has, in recent years, MISPLACED $21TRILLION... Imagine all the good that could do domestically and around the world. The profits to the carlyle group and others off of that are astounding. Enough to buy our government several times over - and it looks like they have...

https://youtu.be/0KfJO8Irjyo

While I have no doubt that Russia had a preference in the game - $hillary and the DNC screwing Bernie on the nomination, is what brought us Trump. Not 13 troll farmers in Russia - working for a private firm (that ANYONE could have hired..including her). And Cambridge Analytica, Facebook, Twitter, CNN, Ray Mercer, Sheldon Adelson etc... At least the Russians have a rational interest in being involved in things. Their country keeps moving closer to our bases and NATO. Where does the Likud grouping's interest lie? Netanyahu and Adelson had a clear preference as well. And now we withdraw from the UN Human Rights Council? Was that for Russia?

Actually Trump is Sheldon Adelson's b**ch (meaning Netanyahu and the Likud/genocide party) - which is why we withdrew from the Human Rights Council - they are rightly critical of Israel. Russia's human rights abuses are a TRIFLE when compared to Saudi Arabia (both domestically AND IN YEMEN - see GENOCIDE) and Israel (- with whom they have a covert relationship, as evidenced clearly during Iran-Contra, but less obviously in their unified opposition to Iran and Syria).

And no I do NOT support Trump. I support PEACE and a HUMANE FOREIGN POLICY for our nation and all others. Which means I often opposed Obama and the Democrats (from their left), who were responsible for some horrific slaughters across the globe.

You should switch channels from CNN and MSNBC once in a while. RT covers US' warcrimez and criminal policy better. Particularly Lee Camp and Redacted tonight.

To laonsite - no way to reply directly - we running off the page...

You talk shit about RT - I'M ASSUMING, because you've never watched it. In FACT (and I say this a professional journalist) it has some of the best, most comprehensive and least biased reporting available - on the US, in the US.

As LEE CAMP of REDACTED TONIGHT puts it at the top of his show (which he writes independently and without interference from above - something that NO OTHER REPORTER in the US can say) "Welcome to Redacted Tonight - where Americans, IN AMERICA, covering AMERICAN NEWS - are called 'Foreign-Agents' ".

As someone who seems to be on the left... I'm really nonplus'ed by your lack of media-savvy. You do know that Anderson Cooper LITERALLY worked at the CIA... Don't you? That CNN "accidentally" place "Interns" - from MILITARY INTELLIGENCE PSYOPS units... In their newsroom - during the Kosovo bombing campaign under Clinton... Don't you? (The only reason we're aware of that fact is because, they got caught and had to offer a half-assed apology - hence the "accidental" placement... Don't worry, I'm sure they were just getting coffee and donuts...picking-up Wolf Blitzer's Dry Cleaning, etc.... Lol).

Have you NEVER heard about Operation MOCKINGBIRD? Before Jeff Bezos and his contracts with the CIA... There was Phil Graham at the Washington Post - a principle in that operation.

Allen Dulles used to call the US Media - his "MIGHTY WURLITZER" (that's an organ - and by hitting the keys and pedals - you can make those sound exactly how you want them to.

There is a reason that intelligent people are waking-up, cutting their cablez and switching to alternative sources for their News. Folks like Gordon Dimmack in the UK - You can see him above, next to all the US' STATE MEDIA logos... Jimmy Dore and Lee Camp - are ALL great sources of information.

Would I go to RT for news on Russian corruption issues... In fact, I might. But I would compare their reporting to that of the BBC or CBS, (MS)NBC - the State media of HOSTILE foreign powers.

The comparison to North Korea is patently FALSE... and speaks to your lack of media literacy, critical thinking and discernment - I'm VERY, sorry to say.
1 up
I actually don't watch those channels, btw. And I wasn't speaking so much to you specifically as I was to the rest of the Teumpflakes here.

But I agree about Saudi Arabia and Israel. Still, I'm not so sure Putin is as harmless as you make him out to be. I think all of the above are in each other's pockets, Trump and Putin most of all, which is scary to say the least...

Russia Pumps Tens of Millions Into Burnishing Image Abroad
By Peter Finn
Washington Post Foreign Service
Thursday, March 6, 2008

MOSCOW -- In early 2004, when Svetlana Mironyuk became director general of the Russian news and information agency RIA Novosti, she discovered that the descendant of the Soviet Union's global propaganda machine was dying on its feet.

Some of its writers were still using typewriters from communist days. The agency was publishing just one English-language newspaper, Sputnik, which was supposedly sold in Britain, although Mironyuk said she could find no evidence of that. Travel agents and dentists had moved into RIA's stolid Moscow headquarters building.

"It was a desperate situation," she said.

No more. The agency's newly refurbished offices include a high-tech newsroom, complete with flat screens and a circular news desk, where 300 journalists disseminate a multimedia package of news to an international audience every day.

RIA Novosti is part of a massive effort by Russia to build and project to the world an image of a country where the economy is booming and democracy is developing. The campaign is designed to counter what the government and many people here see as unrelenting and unfair Western criticism of declining political freedoms under President Vladimir Putin, who is preparing to hand over his post, but perhaps little of his power, after the election last Sunday of his handpicked successor, Dmitry Medvedev.

Firstly - Washington Post = the CIA mouthpiece. Secondly - RT's coverage of AMERICAN NEWS is easily verifiable. Disagree with something they said - go ahead and check the facts with other sources. But the reality is - they bring you the voices of dissidents, academics and even former State Dept. and CIA analysts - that are otherwise suppressed within this country. Ray McGovern is a former analyst who delivered the Presidential Daily briefing to Reagan. You might see him on Democray Now!, on occassion. Jesse Ventura is a former UDT member and Governor of an American State. Lee Camp is a comedian (quite funny by the way) who's show brings suppressed news to the fore - hence the name REDACTED TONIGHT. All these folks do to propagandize you - is share facts and legit analysis that is otherwise suppressed. The BBC is British STATE Media - personally, I always compare their reporting with other sources. But I wouldn't discount what they say out-of-hand.

If the source of funding makes the news "fake" - why do you want to get your news from an EVER-SHRINKING universe of American Corporations - all of whom are connected by their business interests to the US Government and weapons industry?

"In the 1950s, outlays for global propaganda climbed to a full third of the CIA's covert operations budget. Some 3, 000 salaried and contract CIA employees were eventually engaged in propaganda efforts. The cost of disinforming the world cost American taxpayers an estimated $265 million a year by 1978, a budget larger than the combined expenditures of Reuters, UPI and the AP news syndicates.

In 1977, the Copely News Service admitted that it worked closely with the intelligence services - in fact, 23 employees were full-time employees of the Agency.

Most consumers of the corporate media were - and are - unaware of the effect that the salting of public opinion has on their own beliefs. A network anchorman in time of national crisis is an instrument of psychological warfare in the MOCKINGBIRD media. He is a creature from the national security sector's chamber of horrors. For this reason consumers of the corporate press have reason to examine their basic beliefs about government and life in the parallel universe of these United States."

Once N.Korea denuclearizes... We'll be the only Nuclear armed force on the peninsula. We have tactical/artllery nukes positioned there. And Naval capabilities all around the Pacific. Not to mention the ICBM's and bombers in our "triad".""""

Nk and China will not make that deal. if nk nukes go, so do ours.
reply

Our tactical nukes are only a detterent to a battlefield invasion situation, from the North. Our real Nuclear detterent is the "Triad". So giving up our military presence and battlefield/theater capability isn't a big deal. We should do it.

They have never wanted war. Our generals do. I.F. Stone's "Hidden History of the Korean War" (good luck finding a copy - heavily censored and suppressed - library copies "missing", etc...) detailed how they were provoked into attacking the South. Our Generals wanted to use Nuclear weapons and then continue on into Russia and China. So giving peace a chance is win/win for everybody - except the Pentagon and Military Industrial Complex.

Here's the problem. People like you just see other nations and other nationalities, not other people. They are humans just like us, that are being unjustly treated. Why wouldn't we help them if we had any empathy at all?
reply
0 ups, 2 replies
I for sure see that there are people in those other nations. I lived in the Philippines for six months and have visited both our neighbors as well as four European countries. The problem is we simply can't afford to take care of everyone. There are American citizens in this country that get significantly less press attention despite being in even worse conditions than many of the immigrants illegally crossing the border. The purpose of a govt is to look after its citizens. Treating your neighbor kindly is wonderful, but it is crazy to feed him while your kids starve. Pardon the metaphor. I feel for them, but the simple fact is they have their own govt that is supposed to give them the quality of life they need. It is currently incapable of doing so, so they come here. What they should be doing is making a stand at home. Try to fix the lands of your ancestors, not abandon them.
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
I understand that view, but the problem can be fixed. Not easily, of course, but it can be. For one, our country puts way too much money into our military, and a lot of it could be diverted to programs such as Welfare, Medicare, and other similar services. Also, if we make taxation based off of income rather than off of a universal price, then that would increase taxes on the rich, so that the government would get higher income from them.
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
except in every country that increases taxes on the rich, businesses leave and economic growth slows. also a brain drain tends to follow, because those who bust ass to succeed don't want that success taken away from them. They move somewhere else and find a new job or move their business rather than having half their income taken away. As far as cutting military spending, I find it hilarious that the majority of those who hate how much we spend on military are angry that Trump is calling NATO out on meeting their obligations. If they spent the money they needed to for their own defense, our own budget wouldn't be nearly as high. We pay for the defense of north america, europe, the pacific, and parts of asia.
reply
0 ups
There's no success taken away from people. The concept is simple: if you can chip in more, you should. Also, if you DO chip in more, you are paying for the ability to access government provided services rather than paying the potentially obscene prices from private companies. If you want to pay for those companies, you can. As for NATO, it's an agreement between countries that helps endorse peace and encourages cooperation. We should without a doubt stay in NATO. Trump criticizes it, but his complaints areally completely unfounded, and threaten our relationships with important allies. Also, we still need to invest in the military, but not nearly as much as we do. $598.5 billion is just obscene. That amount of money invested in the military isn't about protecting other countries, it's about intimidation.
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
Also, American citizens aren't being separated from their children, and their children aren't being put into "care" facilities that have poor conditions and living standards. If American children were being treated like this, then you can bet that the same people defending these actions would be rioting in the streets.
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
American parents tend to have the sense not to try to bring their kids on thousand mile journeys through the desert, risking life and limb just so they can be arrested on the other side of the border. And they aren't American kids, so yeah.. I'm less concerned when it comes to using our tax dollars to help them. F**king insane that people can throw all the blame at the US and not ask why the Mexican government doesn't do anything. We are enforcing our laws. Don't like them? Vote if you're a citizen, and if you aren't who gives a shit what you think about the way we run things anyways.
reply
0 ups
I am a citizen, born and raised in the USA. And American parents have no need to take these perilous journeys. For the most part, the US is a very safe place, and even if things aren't the best, they're a lot better than in other places. That's the exact reason many immigrant parents actively decide to take their kids to the US. It's safer than where they are, especially if they are in the lower class. The political unrest in these countries as well as the high amount of crime puts these families at risk, and instead of risking doing nothing, they decide to take another risk and come to the USA whatever way they can, with hopes of a better life. Because our system of border control and citizenship is so fundementally screwed up, the poorer people have no choice but to come in illegally. We tie their hands behind their backs and claim that they shouldn't have sought help in the first place. It's sickening that someone could advocate for such disgusting behavior.

FIVE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SEPARATION AT THE BORDER

1. TRUMP DID NOT CREATE THE POLICY OF SEPARATING IMMIGRANT FAMILIES - In 1997 the Federal government settled a lawsuit by agreeing not to house unaccompanied illegal immigrant children for more than 20 days. But nothing was said about children who crossed the border WITH their parents… until the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that children brought here illegally by their parents also could not be held. This meant that the government either had to release whole families, or that the government had to separate parents from children. This was two decades before Donald Trump took office.

2. IN 2013, OBAMA HAD MORE THAN DOUBLE THE MIGRANT CHILDREN IN CUSTODY - Total illegal alien children in DHS custody in 2018: 10,852. Unaccompanied illegal alien children in DHS custody in 2013: 25,000.

3. OBAMA SEPARATED PLENTY OF FAMILIES TOO - Between 2012-2016, almost 200,000 migrant children were referred to the DHS because they were either separated from their families, or they were unaccompanied minors.

4. MOST CHILDREN CURRENTLY IN HHS CUSTODY HAVE NOT BEEN SEPARATED FROM PARENTS - As of mid-June, only 2,000 of the 12,000 kids in HHS care were separated from their parents. The remaining 10,000 were sent unaccompanied by their parents. It cannot be emphasized enough how extremely reckless it is to send children, unaccompanied, across the border. Amnesty International found that an astonishingly high 60% of women are **ped on their illegal journey through Mexican cartel land to the U.S.

5. THERE ARE OTHER WAYS TO SEEK ASYLUM - Rather than illegally and dangerously crossing the border to claim asylum, and break the law in the process, legitimate asylum seekers could instead visit any of the ten U.S. Consulates in Mexico. Doing so would eliminate their risk of being separated from their children.

My first comment today made it clear that this anger should have been going on all along but wasn't. Two days isn't old. Two decades is, and our politicians are too weak to tackle this issue. The easiest thing to do is to kick the can down the road and make it look like you tried and blame the other side for not helping. But that's how we get here today.

1. Trump created his policy, hence why his policy is his policy.

2. 20 days was max to hold kids & adults & families. Then they must be released - the catch and release policy y'all decry.

3. 2013 - 14 witnessed 150,000 children cross the border UNACCOMPANIED. So of course they weren't with their parents. They were reunited with relatives as soon as possible.

4. The Trump policy that yous celebrated then blamed on Obama in 1997 (was he even a community organizer yet then?) because of the outcry, separated 2300 kids from their parents.

5. Stop lying, you sound like the lying idiot you are.

Did you know that Mexico is an incredibly dangerous place to live right now, and between poverty and crime, families are at risk almost all the time?

Also, did you know that not all of the people crossing that border illegally are even Mexican, and there's actually a large portion of Nicaraguans crossing in order to escape the revolution that's happening right now, and if they had stayed, they risk not just separation from their families, but death?

The fact that people can be so blatantly apathetic is appalling to me, and it's an attitude stirred up by the obvious racism and xenophobia that the soggy Cheeto sitting in the oval office advocates. It's disgusting, and is honestly one of the worst actions from a government agency or official that I can think of since the Jim Crow days.

Tell me what law states that the people who enter the country must be separated from their children, where the children are to be put into prison-like shelters with nearly unlivable conditions. There is none. Also, the Nicaraguan refugees are legal asylum seekers. There are international laws protecting asylum seekers. We don't have to accept them, but we have no right to separate them from their children and lock them up, even temporarily.

America represents something universal in the human spirit. I received a letter not long ago from a man who said, 'You can go to Japan to live, but you cannot become Japanese. You can go to France to live and not become a Frenchman. You can go to live in Germany or Turkey, and you won't become a German or a Turk.' But then he added, 'Anybody from any corner of the world can come to America to live and become an American.'
