Maybe we don't need a temu haul. Maybe it's the culture of overconsumption that makes us crave mountains of cheap Chinese crap.
Yes it will be the consumer who pays more money for cheap foreign goods, if they continue to buy them. But maybe we'll buy less of what don't need. Maybe we'll change our habits and buy one well made, and ethically produced, dress, that we handle before buying (hopefully made in the USA) instead of twenty cheap, unethical produced ones from online sites like Shien, that fall apart in a month.
The goal of tariffs is to make our current choices painful and force us to switch to better ones.

Maybe we were going to do that in the 60s... Then the 70s... Then the 80s complete with a Made in America ad campaign to boot!...

It wasn't enough to have enough acreage to grow everything you need to eat and to be surrounded by neighbors that were your own family and friends going back literally thousands and thousands of years. People cannot become gluttonous obese money grubbing greed-driven shallow backstabbers who would betray their own family for a handful of nickels by staying back in the old country and sobbing how instead of his and hers SUVs, they had to borrow their uncle's donkey to bring bales of hay to town to sell in the fall. Really tragic. They suffered so so much...... joy

Anywho, they didn't give all that up just so they could come here to do their civic duty for the grand American economy and not buy anything in excess. They came here for greed. They came here for gluttony. They came here for shiny glittery disposable plastic things. And by golly, ain't nothing going to stop that dream, nothing.

Except maybe a Chinese cyber attack on all our infrastructure if our overlords piss them off too much.
