That's a logical fallacy called an argument from personal incredulity. Just because you can't think of any other explanation doesn't mean that is the only possible explanation.

That second part leaves a convenient escape hatch when Christians are presented with cases where someone truly did search for god but never found him.

Anyone that says there is no God is a fool. This is because you can't know everything. You probably know less than half of everything. God could be in the half you don't know. Therefore if you were honest you would instead say something along the lines of "I haven't seen enough evidence to believe". This QED atheists are fools.
