Absolutely true! A single-action revolver doesn't fire just because it's picked up. The "Rust" shooting involves AT LEAST criminally negligent handling of a firearm. But it just goes from there. People on the set have stated that pointing and firing the weapon at the crew had nothing to do with production at that time. That means both a real weapon AND live ammunition were on the set, when NEITHER had any business being there.
Alec Baldwin is simply lying to avoid accountability, both as the executive producer and the person who unquestionably, intentionally fired the weapon.

It's possible to "slip hammer" a single action revolver just by cocking and releasing the hammer, but the trigger must remain pulled during the entire process. Some call it "fanning."

Um, no, not if all six chambers had rounds in them. That type of gun, though, you should carry with the hammer on an empty chamber. When you pull back the hammer the cylinder will rotate.

Either way LIVE ammo rounds should not have been on the movie set, and apparently the crew had been using the gun(s) for target practice by shooting bottles in the desert with LIVE ammo, add to that the reported apparent lack of safety on set, the assistant director Dave Halls handing Baldwin the gun and saying "cold gun" without double checking the weapon, because he apparently thought the armourer Hannah Gutierrez had checked it, which she clearly had not, and finally Alec Baldwin, after being handed the weapon, did not double check that it was safe. Regardless of what happened in the time before the weapon was released to the set for use, the minute it was on set, it was the responsibility of every person in the chain of custody to double check the firearm for safety.

I'm not disputing that at all, try reading it again. No live rounds should be on set. Yes, safety is everyone's responsibility, ending with the last person to handle the weapon (Baldwin) regardless of what was said by whom.

You are right. And the last person in line of custody ultimately cannot just trust those who went before him. It is simple common sense.
