This is the destruction of private property and individual rights. We are almost no longer a Republic.

Disquieting, yet accurate. Very, very disquieting...

And your property taxes. Oh, and don't let the property fall below code. Oh, and make sure you pay your property insurance.

If you rent out a property, you might want to sell it instead.

Inner city homes are run down by the owners until sold for unpaid taxes or mortgages. Selling to them will only turn another hone into. Crack house.

landowners tend to be conservative.

I disagree. They tend to be wealthy. They may or may not be conservative.

I can only speak for my experiences, but I have rented several houses over the years and not one landlord of mine has been liberal or wealthy. perhaps the owners of million dollar condos are wealthy and mixed in political affiliation, but the eviction moratorium isn't really for them, it's for the middle class conservatives renting out a trailer or small house for 300-600 per month to trying and stay afloat. Those are the people being screwwed over and forced to burn out their saving by allowing renters to live rent free.

The problem is the market. A good market would be like a shop. The customer buys an item but if it costs to much the customer goes to another shop. Creates competition and creative shop keepers etc. Look at the prices when you can't go somewhere else - like at a venue etc. Landlords aren't buying property based a living and competition they are bound by a mortgage and people looking for homes ofter have to rent outside their means. The winner - the bank. The bank doesn't care if the house is full or empty as long as the landlord pays. Landlord can't pay they will take the house just as savagely as the landlord will treat it's tenants if they don't pay. The bank can just take the property and mortgage it to the next victim. There's no market dynamics if a tenants money all goes into one product. If they can't afford to eat and live or even has some surplus to take care of the property they live in. People need affordable rent from landlords who can afford their payments. The real problem is missing from the meme.

The problem on The west coast is foreign investors like the Chinese buying up property and driving up housing costs. We could lower housing costs by limiting foreign ownership like most countries do. The average american can’t compete with foreign oligarchs who want to own the property as an investment and not a place to live.

If a landlord fails to pay the bank and the bank repos the property, the bank should be forced to pay back all the money the landlord paid in minus interest and fees. That would be justice.

The banks never will - they just get Landlords tide into mortgages saying they had a choice and let the tenants and landlords fight

Renters need to pay, they can not be evicted though. This is out of context and warped.

Many stop paying once they know they can’t be evicted.

Not completely (i'm not a landlord so not supporting them). The economy is debt driven - no one waits until they have earned something before buying. Even landlords will buy with interest only repayments.. Everything is becoming subscription based. Money penalties for late payments. if you take on too much you get blamed then stuck in a contract when you try and put it right... people in debt are a cash cow because there's an industry making millions collecting the debt.. The psychology behind it is very powerful. You're gambling not earning and a lot of people do not have the mindset for it. I know someone who needs more hours... Some came along and the took more part time staff to fill them - now the employer has more employees unable to pay the rent. Desperate for more hours but I bet it will work out cheaper for the employer to do this or they wouldn't.
