Yeah, segregationists said that about CRT during and just after the civil rights movement too! So, forgive me for not trusting people who made those same arguments before and the ones making it now.
I just don’t think anyone on any side has an honest opinion of it. Typically, I don’t get the stigma of teaching any theory in school, like evolution or algebra. If the right does want adults and children to think more critically, then there is no harm in really teaching it.
Brainwashing requires a significant portion of society to want to be brainwashed. The dogma would have to appeal to the ego of the person it is transforming. When one trains dogs, you get more unquestioning loyalty from positive reinforcement than negative reinforcement; which appears to be one of the accusations this theory supposedly does to white children.
Now, do I think CRT is all good? No, but I refuse to demonize it completely. Critical thinking in reading comes from not accepting all perspectives as true but rather the intent of the author, which you cannot do if you haven’t done the reading. And I suspect, like me, you actually haven’t.
You can misapply labels all day and still not understand what they mean.
Conservatism is not just maintaining a small government but the preservation of what we have. You cannot preserve the constitution by changing it to fit only your needs, especially when those needs are as shallow as maintaining the social status quo, the manipulate the market, stacking the courts, and keeping a mostly unpopular and generally incompetent president in power.
Those are mostly liberal ideals.
Trying to compete with liberals by essentially doing what they do to prove something, like they’re just hypocritical, is bullshit. The conservatives have always been the elites. Liberals are the ones who see them as the enemy. Yes, not every Democrat is a liberal and not every Republican is conservative but the RINOs that you want out of office are the conservative Republicans working with conservative Democrats to placate the extremists in both parties.
Once that levy has dried up, there will be war.
And that’s what you want, isn’t it?
That’s not conservatism.
