Let’s start at the beginning of human history, shall we? Before civilizations started, most people lived as nomads, wandering from place to place. This was common for a long time, and it was only until later, when people learned to raise grains, that they could settle down in bigger groups. Civilizations were born. The oldest civilizations were the Egyptian and Sumerian civilizations. Fast forward to Hammurabi, king of Babylon, which, in Hammurabi’s day, was small. Hammurabi created the most complete set of ancient laws that historians know of, the Code of Hammurabi. His picture is actually displayed in the U.S. Capitol, along with the likes of Moses and other lawgivers. Let’s go to Assyria, on of the cruelest empires of all time. Tiglath-Pileser I was a king of Assyria and a lawgiver. His laws were very cruel. For example, the punishment for kissing another man’s wife was having his lower lip hacked off. Laws for women were also cruel. If a man owed money, his wife had to pay, even if she wasn’t with him anymore. Now fast forward to 4 B.C. The birth of a religion and most arguably the most influential person in all of human history, Jesus Christ. This religious figure has shaped human history ever since his birth. Thousands of years, influenced by him. The world would be a much different place today had it not been for him. Believe in him or not, he was influential. His teachings were simple, doable, and weren’t harsh like Tiglath-Pileser’s or any other ancient lawgiver for that matter. Love your enemy as you love your neighbor, forgive others who have wronged you, don’t be hypocritical, don’t judge others. Today there are 2.4B Christians in the world, and by 2060, the number of Christians will reach 3.05B. Now, let’s talk about the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire started back in 753 B.C. Legend has it twins, Romulus and Remus, had a competition to rule Rome. They fought it out, and Romulus won. Rome had just gotten started when it ran into its first problem, no women. Rome would fall if there were no women to have children. So when Rome asked The Sabines for women, they said no. Rome didn’t take no for an answer, and instead kidnapped women. I’m getting tired of typing all this, so I’ll skip to the 20th Century. WWI started with the assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie. It ended with the Treaty Of Versailles which left Germany in loads of debt and which partly triggered WWII. Don’t ever underestimate a kid... ;)
