The criteria for the Nobel, is to first look to see if the recipient is 'left', and if not, there may not even be a 'nomination'.... But we've got to see if this 'peace' is the real thing, and not a diversion -- and that will likely take some time (then again, Obama got a Nobel just for being elected -- seriously)....

I agree that it probably won't last, but this is the first time since the Korean War went cold that a north korean leader has stepped foot in South Korea, and the South Koreans at least, feel that he's being serious about peace talks. Whether or not it's a trick I guess we'll see.

Skepticism is certainly warranted. This time though little rocket man has a severe handicap. There last test all but destroyed their one viable test site, rendering it unusable. Essentially theu are out of their land to nuke for tests.

Kim Jong Un's bellicose posturing and threats, may have been just to maintain an image of strength, so that when 'peace agreements' would be made, he would appear to have been instrumental.... But he knows if North and South are opened-up with each other, without him having a major role in it, that his days are numbered.... On the other hand, this could be one big diversion....

He has a lot of defense issues, not to mention being isolated from most of the world. His sister may have been a bigger influence than many realize having ventured out into the world. Again though, it could all be another ploy. that being said, one thing to remember is the snowball effect, like with the USSR breakup up and the fall of the Berlin wall.

Always beware a despot whose entire existence is at threat if they engage in military actions, AND if they DON'T engage in military actions... They can be like cornered wild animals....

There could be. I am also skeptical about the long term, but it's at least a step in the right direction. Can't say this for the past dozen plus presidents.

I spoke to people who were there and wounded. At least when they got word that the Truman ordered McArthur not to enter China, the Chinese let us rescue all the wounded soldiers that were not given any backup....
3 ups, 7y
I’ve heard this before, but most documentaries say MacArthur entered China without orders, thought we could easily take it, and then tried to convince Truman to OK it—after crossing from North Korea into China. Truman refused and told him you are on your own, there will be no backup, this is not the objective of this war. Obviously, China had to have been informed of all this by the Whitehouse and only put up enough fight to put McArthur (and his troops) down. Otherwise it would have been a massacre. Having spoken to people that were there, they said if they wanted to walk through and kill all of our soldiers, they could have, but because of the agreement with Truman, they let them retreat and pick up the dead and wounded.

Ass kicked?

By Japan when they got ousted from Korea in WWII?

By North Korea whose incursion into South Korea was quickly repelled shortly after?

By the USSR and China who had to settle for north of the 38th Parallel as before said incursion?

By the ever threatening North Korea who is so poor that they average 3 inches shorter than their brethren in the South?

By the Germans whose blitzkreig bopping would have turned Britain into a barren heap that would have made the Scottish Moors look like the Amazon in comparison?

By the USSR that would have taken over the UK after the German Wehrmacht was destroyed?

The Communists - N Korea, USSR, and China - gained no extra territory in Korea, and WWIII was averted through the strength, perserverance, and sacrifice of our soldiers.

Perhaps maybe next round the The Mighty British Empire can flex some of that sun-never-sets-on... muscle and do what they used to do before they turned into a bucket of near comatose earthworms shuddering while Pakis rob, rape, and rummage with impunity through the carrion that used to be merry ol' England.

Oh, and btw, on behalf of us Americans who have to wipe the drool off the chins of you blithering addled hapless lot now, YOU'RE WELCOME.

The basic problem with th validity of your revisionist bit of fiction is that it didn't happen.

You aren't speaking German,

You aren't speaking Russian,

You are speaking American, even in the land that invented English.

American lingo, music, movies, television, fashion, and whatever other trends VOA imperialistically 'forces' you to emulate, down to our junk food even, all gobbled up with glee, nyet?

How is the USSR and the Khmer Rouge doing nowadays? They still rockin' the comrade dance?

Good thing you speak Russian, so you can translate all them Pussy Riot songs. Russian music is so difficult to translate from English to English, innit?

Boi the deal was made between NOKO and SOKO by their leaders. The only thing that trump did was promise that he wouldnt invade NOKO

Today South Korean President Moon called for Trump to receive the Nobel Peace prize. When Trump was asked if he thought he would get the prize he said, "peace is the prize". You guys have no idea how good this guy really is.

He met with Kim Jong Un and North Korea is crediting Trumps visit to this monumental Peace agreement. He met with Kim April 11.

Oh please... the CNN spiel... but they're probably saying Obama 'set the stage' for it... Then again, they also said over a year ago, that Trump will cause a war with Noko -- yet it didn't happen (yes, yes, I know they'll have a spin on that, just like why he's still in office after they said he'd be gone before he started (and then by 6 months); I know their game -- I just wish other people would start to catch onto it soon)...
1 up, 7y
theyre not saying obama had anything to do with it. They are just saying that trump didnt have anything to do with it either besides just saying he wouldnt invade.

Trump met with Kim, we don't know the content of the conversation. But no other President in the last 68 years could do this. Love him or hate him he does what he says he will do.

ICYMI You're jumping the gun. Trump hasn't met with Kim yet. So iy'e not surprising that you don't know the content of the conversation. There hasn't been one.

Considering that Trump has been back and forth with Un since he took office I find it difficult to believe that he didn't have something to do with the deal.

He definitely played some role, even if it was just unreported threats of annihilating NK if they didn't calm down.

I think NK tried to act tough right around the time Japan and Hawaii had their ballistic missile public safety warnings go off but found out their technology was a little outdated and they could never hope to survive a war.
