Honestly school genuinely pmo a lot and not because of the work but because of the system because it feels like it was made to do the exact opposite of helping kids because most of the time the assignments are confusing and the teachers will get mad at you for not magically knowing what to do when there were literally no instructions and the paper was insanely confusing as well which I find really annoying and on top of that teachers will mark stuff as missing the exact millisecond that it's late but then take a full three weeks to grade stuff; and I know that they have stuff to do and a schedule and whatever else but I genuinely do not believe that's a valid excuse at all because just because a teacher has other things to do it doesnt mean that a student should just have to turn stuff in millisecond deadline school is "supposed to be" a place where you learn and grow and stuff not a place where you're stressed out because you have to get an assignment done right now because if you turn it in even half a millisecond late it'll get marked off as missing and when the teacher finally gets to grading it you'll get a zero because it'll have been so long since it was due that the teacher will no longer be accepting it. On top of this the American Education System still uses the same Prussian system from roughly 200 years ago that valued obedience over education and I genuinely believe that teachers still value obedience over education nowadays in modern education even if they don't realize it and it's subconscious. Even if I wanted to be generous and naive and assume that school was, in fact, intended to appeal to children, it would apply to such a specific archetype of children that barely exists anymore (said archetype being cisgender heterosexual neurotypical individuals who love school and love learning with an undying passion), and, as society evolves and progresses and people get more diverse and more knowledge about things like mental health and flaws in the education system becomes more accurate and more widely available, and the topics taught in school become much easier and more efficient to learn at home, will become pretty much nonexistent. On top of this, the way school teaches is very inefficient and potentially even harmful, since it's pretty much an all risk no reward system, it pretty much takes the punishment/reward system of teaching and completely removes the reward. You get punishment that is potentially very severe if your grades are failing, however if your grades are doing good you get pretty much no reward. Sure you get to go to school events and stuff, but that doesn't work at all. It is a horrible motivator. If a student doesn't care enough about their school or grades to do their work, then why would they care enough to want to go to one of their school's events? They wouldn't. I wholeheartedly believe that the education system is designed to help kids who are at the top with good grades stay at the top and maintain said good grades as well as punish those who aren't doing too well and make it nearly impossible for them to do better. On top of this, most educators seem to have a victim blaming mentality, where if a student fails a test, they blame it on the student not studying enough, they blame it on the student's bad grades, they blame it on practically anything but themselves and act like they're pretty much never at fault, and when an educator, the most common example being a teacher, actually does admit to being wrong, they sound very reluctant when they do it, as if admitting when they're wrong for some reason causes them physical pain. I'm not implying that every educator, nor that I even implying that most educators, have a superiority complex and therefore believe themselves to be more important than others and believe that they can never be wrong and that their students are below them and are almost always in the wrong, however I have seen numerous teachers that I've had in the past express signs of that. Of course no teacher explicitly said "I'm better than you", or "You're always wrong", or "I'm always right", but they did imply that they believed that. If someone's a narcissist (just using that as an example), are they going to explicitly tell you "I'm a narcissist"? No, they're not, of course they wouldn't, why would they? In fact they probably don't even know that they are narcissist, or if they did they would have brushed off or ignored anyone telling them that they are one. Even though said narcissist isn't going to explicitly say that they're not a narcissist, they're going to, even if subconsciously, imply that and show enough signs that you can very accurately infer whether or not they're a narcissist. Another complaint I have about the school system is the music thing. If music helps a kid focus, they're not listening to it so loud that they either can't hear the teacher or the other kids in the class can hear it, and they're not letting it be a distraction, then what's the issue? And I don't get the whole thing of not allowing students to listen to music because it's "not school appropriate" because it has like one F bomb in it or something.Of course, most of the time, if a kid is going to listen to music like that, it's likely that they're going to drop at least five F bombs in a conversation with their friends at school. I don't get the whole thing about music "not being school appropriate", as in I don't see the issue with students listening to it so long as they're not letting it be a distraction or playing it loud enough that other students can hear. Also, let's assume that music does have some sort of negative effect on students. If so, then why does it seemingly either have no effect or the teachers just don't care about it when a kid listens to it at home, but it's an issue when they listen to it at school? On top of this, just because someone listens to music, it doesn't mean that they agree with it, they could just vibe with it. Personally, I just listen to whatever my ears like, I don't care for things like what it's about or who made it or what genre is it, other than to know who to listen to more. Overall I just think that the entire school system is insanely flawed. | image tagged in piccolo, dragon ball z perfect cell, gohan vs majin buu, vegeta over 9000,frieza,beerus and yamcha | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
