We are just going by Somalispot, a Somali community forum, suggesting Elmi was her sibling and the marriage was an immigration scam to get him U.S. citizenship. There was also a since-deleted Instagram post from 2012 where Elmi allegedly called Omar’s daughter his “niece,” hinting at a familial tie. A 2020 Daily Mail article upped the ante, quoting Abdihakim Osman, a Somali community leader in Minneapolis, who claimed Omar told friends Elmi was her brother and she married him to secure him “papers.” More recently, a 2021 Daily Mail piece cited a supposed DNA test (from a cigarette butt and straw, no less) showing a 99.999998% sibling match. All she has to do is produce tax and immigration records, which she refuses to do.
