That is one way to look at it.
Another allegedly, is that the seceding took place when Congress was not about to Fund the Southern Route of the 5 Routes planned and surveyed by U.S. Secretary of War Jefferson Davis, post Mexican American War. Atlanta was the largest Railroad Hub established at that time and it would have been a breeze to use Slave Labor to connect the two Southern most Routes first to San Diego and L.A. George McLellan had surveyed the Northernmost route from Minnesota to Tacoma, and much of San Diego to Tacoma.
The Northern newly formed Republican Party had the next four generations of income on their minds,
as did the Forbes family with one of the brothers that was sent to China, being adopted by the richest man on earth, Wu Bingijan, in the city with the 13 factories, Guangzhou in Canton province. This adopted son wanted to make Chicago the railroad hub and Ohio and Michigan the factory centers that could connect West first hubbing St. Louis to San Francisco. He wanted to get congress to fund that first, and as president of Michigan Railroad in 1850's, his opinion was respected by the Railroad Tycoons. See, through his connections with the Bill Gates/Elon of his day, he could get cheap Chinese labor to start from the west through Sacramento; and he could get the UK to send Irish and Germans whom were famished to the midwest, providing cheap labor, then English speaking townsfolk to inhabit the west and subdue natives onto reservations. You see, none of this group of the Aztec Club of 1847 wanted the spoils to go to the South; they wanted it for themselves. Howqua provided startup funds.
They did not want to pay the south for their eminent domain loss in property value, as the UK just did freeing their slaves. They'd rather confiscate all their lands, and leave them impoverished in the aftermath of war. It would take generations for enough former slaves to become educated and engaged in earning their own living and saving and spending money. Irish and Germans were already free enough to understand a non-slavery working relationship for The Man.
This U.S. Civil War may have been about Chinese Markets being opened up, as much as the moral victory of the ending of Slavery as an institution in the USA.
Some may contend Wilberforce did more than Lincoln for that cause. It's all good, yet there was one glaring example of a more civil solution to the ending of slavery, and that was the British that gave the U.S.A. that institution
On a side note, Modda, you were complimented the other day by AdamSmithsInvisibileHand when that BOT asked me in a reply if I were Modda...
You're welcome.
