It took Great Britain 182 years to pay off the loans they took to free their slaves with Just Compensation for Property Loss to the Owners of said property.
What if Lincoln had taken out a loan instead and bought the slaves freedom as was the Precedence set ? What if Lincoln and his team had followed the Constitution at the time, and adhered to the 5th Amendment and it's eminent domain clause rather than just stealing the value of property from the owners, however vile that may seem today. Was the UK more Civil in keeping their peace through compensation in the progress of change?
Going to war for to be moral, for anything other than Liberty rings true in the US Civil War example, the Liberty of the Enslaved is Moral. Yet taking others legal property w/o just compensation for their loss is not moral. Nor is killing your neighbor a moral act.
There is that to consider as well.
The UK just recently got out of Slave Owner Compensation debt in 2015. 11 years ago.
The USA could have had it paid off by the year 2043 (1861AD + 182yrs = 2043CE)
Maybe less time, as the USA only had about 1/2 the number of Slaves as the UK.
This is an apples to apples comparison with the nation that BROUGHT THE SLAVE TRADE TO the America.
In particular North America, as well as SPAIN & Portugal bringing Many more humans in bondage to South America, Central America, as well as the Caribbean.

The U.S. Civil War to Baby Boomers that lived through JFK, RFK, MLK, the summer of Love, sex, drugs, rock n roll, The Beatles, 'Nam, Kent State and the Civil Rights Act all collectively feel a hippie connection to things and can be irrational and radical,
...as can't you understand how it FEELS to be them and CARE so much more than any other human to ever live. As such, if one says U.S. Civil War to most of them, they either hide, change the subject, or get agitated and scream IT WAS ALL ABOUT SLAVERY.
& They are correct. Whether they be descended from African Americans, Caucasians, Native Americans, Asians, or Hispanic and on and on. IT WAS ALL ABOUT SLAVERY.
Yet, maybe for more reasons and contributing variables than they've cared to consider,
and that's understandable, as it is heart-wrenching material to work through.
