You don't need an AR-15 to hunt or defend your home. By far the majority of shootings in the US are with pistols. Leftists want to ban military rifles so we can't fight back. There is no other reason.

My biggest thing is that AR-15s are safer to use as home defense because a pistol bullet will go through your interior wall, exterior wall, exterior wall of your neighbor's house, and multiple interior walls of your neighbor's. An AR-15 bullet loses all of its energy hitting the first wall and doesn't leave your house.

I agree an AR can be used as a home defense platform, but it can also shoot through walls, most any round can. The caliber used, the type of round, steel, lead, hollow point etc matters as does the wall type. Most American homes are not built to stop any type of rounds and most people defending their homes would aim at their intended targets, I have never seen any reports of people being injured by a neighbor fighting off home invaders, but innocents being hit by drive bys, and other types of shooting are not uncommon.

I keep a pistol bedside to defend my home, a rifle would be overkill and I have zero neighbors to worry about. In the end, it all comes down to training, having a plan and working through the plan. If neighbors close by could be injured the plan should reflect that and work around it. Hope that helps.

It depends entirely on what type of ammo you load in the gun. There are self defense oriented .223/556 rounds that are safe for that purpose, while there are others that will easily get through walls. You just have to research your ammo choices carefully.
