I'm not so sure about that. The French Revolution started with overthrowing the monarchy. Then after they killed them they went after the nobles. Then they went after the rich. Then they stopped the slaughter finally when it came down to killing people who had just a little more than they did. They somehow recognized the insanity of what they had done.
The other thing about socialism, just like Marxism, is that it believes in the labor theory of value.
The labor theory equates that value of the individual with the value of their labor. This idea does equate a janitor with a CEO but that is a problem.
While the value of an individual is immeasurable, the value of their labor is quantifiable. When it comes to the operation of the business the work a janitor performs is significantly less value as a CEO.
In a consumer driven market that becomes much more obvious. A socialist nation who practices the labor theory will never be able to complete in the global market unless they makes slaves of their people, like China.
Products based on the labor theory are always more expensive and are inferior in quality
In a consumer based market the labor an individual performs only has the value of how successful it makes the business.
If a janitor wants more money then it is up to them to learn the necessary skills to perform work that provides more value. Even that means starting their own business and becoming the president or CEO of that business.
