I never said Trump Supporters are the only ones who downvote to hide comments.
I stated that by their OWN standards, that is a violation of free speech.
According to their erroneous definition of Free Speech that ANY attempt to silence free speech is a violation of the first amendment.
It isn’t.
Many Trump Supporters have argued that being banned or censored from Twitter or any social platform (which would include IMGFlip), being sued or tried for speech in the case of defamation by slander, libel, and threat, as well as the general censorship of any media constitutes a violation of Free Speech.
They tend to forget that social platforms, media, and civil matters are not legislation or acts by government bodies to impede such speech.
Nor am I advocating that comments should not be hidden or removed. Yet they have pursued this very line of thinking, have contested this with owners of the very site, and many have hypocritically participated in the repression of speech, as stated by their standards. Either to try to prove a point or by unwittingly admitting that they only care of the repression of THEIR speech but not everyone else’s.
Nor am I accusing YOU of doing this, but rather explaining that your flippant comment in regards to the unpopularity of someone’s comments do not make them any less relevant to yours and anyone (not you, as I don’t recall you doing so) who may agree that hiding comments is an acceptable way of combatting those with conflicting ideas, even unpopular ones, while defending absolute free speech is mere hypocrisy.
