The democrats way of transferring their love of slavery and the KKK onto the Republicans and erase their own history is by claiming that the party's switched. All of the racist democrats switched to the Republican party and all the Republicans switched and became democrats.

Anyone with common sense enough to read Lincoln's address in the Cooper Union Speech would understand Lincoln was targeting Democrats and telling them they weren't on the Conservative side. The CONSERVATIVE SIDE was the actual side that Lincoln and Republicans represented which in itself, consisted of conserving the forefathers' Amendments who founded this great country. It was pointed out that all men should be free and equal, so that already rules slavery out which the Democrats were responsible for.

Like their God, Lincoln, most Republicans back then like most Democrats and Whigs, etc, were racists. Slavery was a moral issue, not an equality one.
