you might not have watched the Jan. 6 riot on TV, but the capitol police removed the barricade fencing and voluntarily opened the doors for the protesters. There was only 1 window broken by someone in the crowd throwing something, but the crowd of people walked up the steps and marched around the halls for 30 minutes before going into the offices and chambers, it was all televised and reported live.
Certainly, the crowd quickly became a mob and riotous, but a riotous protest is a far cry from the definition of an "insurrection". No one was armed, except for the police, who did shoot and kill an unarmed woman, with no warning.
If the Left consider Jan. 6 an "insurrection", then they should also call the similar riots at the White House on May 30, 2020 and in D.C. on Jan. 21, 2017 as well as the Federal court building attacked and set on fire in Portland in 2020 and even recent protests outside Supreme Court Justices homes', which is specifically prohibited by law.
