Government shouldn't maintain infrastructure. Please point me to a functioning example of a libertarian state, because I don't think there are any. If you remove government then the biggest business will effectively become the government. One business will build the roads and then either bill the individuals and businesses who use it, or just flat out forbid the other businesses from doing it. And you don't get a vote. And unless another business builds a second road, its a monopoly. The only difference between a corporation and a democracy is that we all get a vote in a democracy.
Government bids jobs to build roads and selects from among the businesses. Where is the libertarian savings coming from when a business would do the same thing?
Maybe some, but most Libertarians seemed to hate both parties, but love Trump. Granted, I don't meet a lot of Libertarians.
Our military should only protect our citizens - I agree mostly. But it also gets complicated. What would have changed had we entered WWII earlier? Do you think the Axis powers would have left us alone if they had won in Europe and Asia? I don't know, but 'minding our business' has to be tempered with not ignoring a fire in our backyard. No man is an island, and no nation is either (except literally in some cases). There's also the fact that in a global economy, we are affected by the things that hurt other countries.
Yeah, that's the social contract for you. Value is subjective and we thus have elections.
Most if not all money we 'give' other countries isn't charity and it isn't selfless. We give countries fighting Russia money and equipment so that they will fight Russia because the we/they think that is in America's best interest. We give money the the WHO, because stopping diseases before they become pandemics is best for everyone. We give more than other countries a lot of times because we like the influence that gives us. I'm not agreeing with all the giving, but understanding the goals aren't selfless is important if you want to discuss money we send out.
