I work at a mechanics, although I just do point checks and tyre fittings.
About half the new cars that come in either have to be sent to the dealership for repairs or don't have any universal parts and gave to be ordered in.
Costs are always triple at that point, and the cars usually go to hell after the 10 year mark (out of warranty)
When you go to the junkers yard about half the cars are 10 years old more or less and aren't in bad condition, just not worth the repair costs because it's usually 1 big issue but 5 oncoming ones etc etc.
I drive an vauxhall from 1992, my car gets less repairs than anyone's, lol
