Coal powered cars. My favorite.

I’m gonna patent the Fred Flintstone-mobile

It’s even better because of the energy efficiency losses by switching from heat, to pressure, to kinetic rotation, to electromagnetic, to kinetic rotation.

Probably a solid 15% of that original energy from the coal.

It's also worth mentioning that the cast majority of a cars related emissions occur during its manufacturing, and that since new cars are generally built like crap, more expensive to repair and have a quicker depreciation, they're going to be replaced more often.

I'd put money that the total amount of pollution will go up over time but they'll call it a win because there's less exhaust emissions

So true
Not to mention the toxic batteries that only last a few years, but cannot be disposed of in a landfill.

Furthermore, the batteries require huge amounts of mining to produce rare metals. Eventually the metals will run out before every petroleum powered vehicle could be replaced with battery powered electric.

Not sure if this is anecdotal or if you've got any facts to back up the supposed trend (generally built like crap, more expensive to repair and have a quicker depreciation, they're going to be replaced more often)

I had on '04 Toyota Corolla that I had to get rid of after almost 200,000 miles in 2019. I currently have an '08 Dodge Caravan with almost 170,000 miles.

I work at a mechanics, although I just do point checks and tyre fittings.
About half the new cars that come in either have to be sent to the dealership for repairs or don't have any universal parts and gave to be ordered in.
Costs are always triple at that point, and the cars usually go to hell after the 10 year mark (out of warranty)

When you go to the junkers yard about half the cars are 10 years old more or less and aren't in bad condition, just not worth the repair costs because it's usually 1 big issue but 5 oncoming ones etc etc.

I drive an vauxhall from 1992, my car gets less repairs than anyone's, lol

how many more payments until you own that 92 vauxhall? sounds sweet!

By the way, that's water vapor, not smoke; photos taken on cold days to frighten the idiots

Exactly! That's what cooling towers put out whether it's hot or cold out - water vapor.

Sooo... What your saying is that even if we drive environmentally friendly cars, it won't do much cause the electricity comes from environmentally harmful power plants?

By god, Jim... You've got it in one!

Seriously though, that's pretty obvious and a driving factor why most if not all Climate activist groups demand a 100% renewable energy production.

(yes yes, unpopular opinion.)

If someone comes up with a 100% renewable energy source that is eco-friendly and cost effective, I'll convert everything I have to it. Unfortunately, none of them are 100% anything, and even though they would be an improvement over fossil fuels, they are not cost effective.

True. But we are slowly seeing a rise in cost effective ones. For example in Germany they are already shutting down their Coal and Nuclear plants.

it's not a technology isn't out there it's just that the will hasn't been found yet
0 ups, 4y
"Will" means "money." As long as fossil fuels are cheaper, whether to build or operate, they will power most of the world. The way to make the conversion happen is to beat the cost of fossil fuel, and that will give people the will to make change happen. Only children like Greta what's her face think that you can say some magic words and the world's going to change. Real change requires math. If you can make the finances work out you can do anything you want. If you can't find a way to make it cost effective, or at least competitive, you end up a boomer on a bicycle on the LA Freeway.

Yes. Sad part is, they don't produce enough power to make it worth the cancer.

Cradle to grave, electric cars (currently) pollute more than gas powered cars.

Also, if liberals would do any research into how the minerals used for car batteries are removed from the earth, they'd be shocked.

Typical liberal "feel good" approach to issues. They don't care about facts or the actual effect of what they do. They only care that they can convince themselves they're doing the "right thing." Ignorant hypocrites...

So the mining of coal, and what is left after the coal mines are exhausted is enviro friendly as well?
Why are Repugants so afraid of science and technology- saddle up that horse and ride back into town- with your side arm, of course. Deny technology
