Obama does much the same “code-switching” when talking to black audiences, but he’s black so I guess it’s not considered racist in his case.
Why is that though?
All talented politicians tailor their message and tone somewhat depending upon the group they are speaking to. Or, they should.
Bernie and Trump are a couple of the exceptions: I think both of them pretty much plow forward with their same shtick regardless of whom they are speaking to, but they are special cases.
—So, getting selectively mad at white politicians for “code-switching” in front of black audiences, but not getting mad at black politicians when they “code-switch” in front of white audiences, could actually be considered racist toward those white politicians.
—Or by the same token: White politicians *not* extending the same courtesy of ”code-switching” to black voters and black voters only could also be considered racist.
So, there are many, many ways of looking at this issue.
