If this country were indeed a Democratic system, mob rule would be a thing and we wouldn't need 95% of its citizens to even vote. And you do realize that the electoral college is set up and moved around by the people, right? They're called districts and every state has them. We vote the representatives into office and they represent the districts. In turn the electoral college is set up with representatives at the local level. So if you don't like the way it's set up, vote for the guy you want to represent your district. Don't try to change something that isn't broke.

The EC is in fact broken, esp. evident in 2016, and should be fixed. Honestly don't need to abolish it if we just did away with the "winner take all" aspect which would make the outcomes effectively much closer to the popular vote.

Popular vote doesn't equal "mob rule" in dozens of democracies around the world and it wouldn't here either.

Democrats want to get rid of the electoral college because they think they would win more elections. What they fail to consider is that Republicans would alter their campaign strategies to go after the popular vote and, thus, win just as often if not more.

The GOP would have to in order to stay competitive in the major population centers that the GOP totally ignores currently (NYC, LA, SF, Chicago, etc.) because the Electoral College lets them

Plus, the GOP wouldn’t need to change the minds of 3 million voters to win the popular vote. Trump didn’t waste any time campaigning in CA because he knew he wouldn’t get their EC votes. If he were going after the popular vote, he would have spent a lot of time in those cities and at least countered some of the anti-Trump garbage spewed by the Clinton campaign. If you think 70% of Californians would have voted for Hillary no matter what, you’re dumber than you look.

Democrats would alter their campaign strategies too, and more heavily prioritize the states they currently take for granted.

The EC doesn’t help small states gain attention honestly. It only helps medium-to-large size battleground states like Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, etc. They are pretty large to begin with and don’t really deserve all this extra attention.
