What I don't get, though, is what was an Iranian general doing in Iraq in the first place?

Routing ISIL in Iraq that Trump took credit for in 2017? THAT'S the 'terrorism' Soleimani & Co were responsible for.

Iranian soldiers far outnumber Americans in Iraq. Backing the Shiite militia and Kurdish Peshmerga they have armed and trained, THEY did most of the work fighting ISIL while American soldiers blew up some abandoned airfields or a hospital or something because our GPS is always broken.

Same with Syria, Iran has more troops there than the US and Russia. And again, working with the Kurds. 11,000 Kurds died fighting ISIL there, yet how many Americans reported killed? Wow, that Kelvar sure works great. Kurds and Shiites fighting ISIL, those are the "terrorists" Iran has backed, according to Trump. And like the Kurds, once we're done with them, we toss them back to the lions.
Also, the Shiite & Kurdish regions practically function as part of Iran, more allied with them than the Sunnis to the South. The General has been coordinating all this before and now.

First, I agree on things like Baghdad versus Benghazi.

That said, it was Iran's money that we illegally took, and we have to comply with both our own ethics and international law.

Second, he didn't send it to Iran, he sent it to Baghdad.

Without a court conviction and due process (remember the Kavanaugh issues), that kind of assassination is a violation of law.
