My political history might surprise you. I used to be conservative/libertarian. First eligible to vote in '08, I voted Ron Paul in the '08 primaries, then McCain in '08 general. Then Gary Johnson in both '12 and '16. I hated HRC, and even cheered internally when Trump won. I gave Trump the benefit of the doubt for far longer than my liberal friends. However...

Over the past 3 years, Trump's total narcissism, casual racism, total indifference to the law, and complete abandonment of traditional GOP principles that I once cherished has made me for the first time in my life identify as a Democrat. I've followed the Democratic primaries, and in my opinion, any of them would be better than Trump. Even Biden, whom I despise (essentially a male HRC).

You should try thinking for yourself, it's fun.

You changed your entire political philosophy b/c you don't like Trump? That's pretty dumb.

"[Trump's] complete abandonment of traditional GOP principles that I once cherished"
What principles? And do you really think any of the Dems would uphold those GOP principles any better?

You're clearly not thinking for yourself if you change your entire world-view out of spite. I hated McCain but I wouldn't have become a Democrat if he got elected.

The national debt hasn't gone down since Eisenhower. Blame the Fed.

We still have our alliances... upholding your alliances doesn't mean you have to let them take advantage of you.

Entitlement programs aren't part of the GOPs cherished principles... we want less people on food stamps and more people working.

Free trade is globalism and would destroy nations. If you supported the GOP because they used to be on board with globalism then you supported them for the wrong reason.

So unless your defining principle is for more globalism, your political 180 as a result of Trump's presidency is completely unfounded.

Yes, my political principles have evolved as I've gathered more life experience. But rather than changing my entire political philosophy, it is more accurate to say that Trump's rise and total takeover of the party revealed that the GOP I thought I knew was a lie.

I should clarify that was never fully in the GOP camp. I was always socially liberal (pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, etc.), but I lived with that contradiction because I still liked them better overall than Democrats. That's not the case anymore. Now I like Democrats better, but if the Democrats ever go off the deep end (say, Bernie Sanders becomes president and starts nationalizing everything), then I'll change back. I'm politically fluid.

See 5 bullet points above. How old are you? Do you remember when the GOP was committed to such things, or at least pretended to be? The GOP has undergone a pretty huge transformation in my lifetime, especially since G.H.W.B.

Name, tagline, streams moderated and followed, in addition to language, general ignorance, arrogance, fanboy attitude & approach - these reveal someone who is in middle school at the most.
A significant number of Trumpites here are years away from voting.
But this is kinda like gaming minus the game, so why not?
2 ups, 4y
Lol, I'm still new around here and orienting myself, so please tell me what streams can I follow on this website to show my maturity.

In my humble opinion, imgflip.com/m/SexStream which is only 2-3 weeks old already features some of the most mature content on ImgFlip. How you could think someone in middle school is capable of conceiving a project like this is beyond me. More likely, you don't actually believe this and are just trolling me.

Yes I am a fan of Kylie Minogue, IMO the greatest dance-pop artist of our generation (move over MJ and Madonna). Her sister's nice, too.

Oh, I meant fanboy attitude towards Trump that that one displays, as in the fervor for him. Which, unlike usual stars, he's famous for, um, uh, absolutely nothing.
Then you can see his streams and memes - gaming and all that. Not many Pac Man Boomers following that.

Was having one of these about Reagan last week and it became rather apparent that the dolt was in diapers when W Bush was Prez, and most likely that during his 2nd term. Yet the kid was trying to lecture me about what I had lived through like I didn't know.

Streams themselves don't necessarily indicate maturity, as do those other things I listed - hell, initially I used mainly G-Man pics - a Half-Life character, though I didn't know who he was at the time, just found some Devaintart pics I liked. And I use a lot of clowns, albeit not the Barnum & Bailey variety.

I wasn't aware PirateSaavy started the SexStream, not seeing it on his profile, but the rest is indicative of him being a kid.

Me trolling you? How? By pointing out that some Trumpler Youth Jr wannabe whose age and life experience you yourself questioned is tryong to bs you?
2 ups, 4y
Oh Vagabond, I'm sorry, I thought you were talking about me when you said stuff about streams followed/moderated and fanboy attitude (as it was a reply to my post). Lol!

No, it wouldn't surprise me at all if PirateSaavy was in middle school... or even more sadly, an isolated and emotionally-stunted grown man.

Fighting the socialist Dems, check. Better economy less red tape.........check........Protection of the Constitution.....Check........The truth is. More insults as usual but this time you managed a whole paragraph and at least the beginnings of a cogent argument. We do seem to be getting somewhere... slowly.

To me, the most persuasive arguments for Trump are the lower taxes and the (so far) humming economy. However, I find too many other downsides to his presidency to make that worth it.

He abandoned a lot of the good principles, and yes I've also evolved on other issues as well. Unlike virtually all of you I acknowledge that I am capable of learning and growing politically.

Right, you're the only one that can adapt to the situation. You're soooo special and unique and we're all stuck in the stone age. *eyeroll* I voted Obama in '08 because I thought McCain would be a disaster(time has proven me right) even though I've always been a republican. By 2012 I was firmly against Obama, and by 2016 I was VERY willing to vote Trump and so far I haven't been disappointed. I wish he'd quit tweeting so much but as far as policy and actual leadership? I'm totally satisfied with him, and will certainly be voting for him again in 2020.

As far as your alliance point - absolute horseshit. NATO is in disarray mostly because of Turkey and not being able to agree on a response to ISIS. As far as strength however, NATO has gotten a major boost since Trump's election as he has actually managed to convince many of the members to meet their spending requirements. Since he's been in office the number of countries meeting their 2% of GDP has more than doubled.
2 ups, 4y,

Turkey's recent behavior is a shitshow, I will agree with you there. I don't support anything about Erdogan, and yes that's been a big strain within NATO. (Although Trump has been both hot and cold on Erdogan and the Kurds, and it's hard to detect what Trump truly feels about this)

As for defense spending: Yeah, you bet when the sitting president of the world's most powerful military starts shitting on you, then you increase your defense budget in response. But alliances are about more than the numbers -- more countries hitting or approaching the 2% spending target on paper doesn't necessarily mean we're stronger overall.

There's also been serious talk, mostly initiated by France, of creating a "European" (i.e. NATO-independent) army. It hasn't gotten off the ground yet, but the seed has been planted. Germany is also cozying up to Russia. There's a lot more pro-Russian sentiment in Eastern and Central Europe than we'd like to believe. With such an erratic U.S. president, why wouldn't these countries hedge their bets?
1 up, 4y
Most of eastern europe is terrified of Russia, idk what you're talking about pro-russian sentiment. As far as the europeans pulling out of NATO and forming their own combined military? GOOD. That means our troops can come home and we don't have to worry about getting pulled into a major european war. I hope to god they do just that. NATO for the last 10-20 years has basically been the US guaranteeing the safety of an entire continent that isn't willing to spend on its own defense. Any war that breaks out in europe at the moment would involve almost entirely US blood and dollars being spent to defend our allies despite the fact that the EU as a whole has both a larger population and economy than we do. They're taking advantage of us, and why anyone would want to continue that is beyond me. Let the euros deal with Russia, we have bigger problems to our west.

The only thing I'll respond to this time is your notion that we're heading for a "civil war." No -- at least, not if people like you are kept far away from the levers of power, God willing.

As for your other points: my original post outclassed yours in every way and it's not worth destroying you again.
2 ups, 4y
Okay, I'll take the bait.

1. National Debt. The tax cuts which you so cherish are just a giveaway if not accompanied by spending cuts. The National Debt is ballooning more under Trump than any prior administration, Republican or Democrat. It feels good now but my generation, and yours assuming you're younger than me, will be paying for it all. The Democrats don't really care either, so these parties cancel out in my mind on this issue. Although it's worth noting that the budget deficit was actually lower in Obama's last years than it's been under Trump. https://www.forbes.com/sites/chuckjones/2019/01/18/trumps-big-win-the-largest-budget-deficit-with-a-strong-economy/#296a591049d1

2. Alliances. Trump regularly shits on our allies publicly. NATO is in a more precarious state now than it's ever been, and Russia is laughing at us. China is taking this opportunity to build coalitions across the world. North Korea issue has not been solved despite all the public fanfare. The Middle East is a box of matches ready to ignite, and almost has several times under this Administration. I commend Trump for finally getting rid of John Bolton, but he never should have been there in the first place.

3. Entitlement spending. Continues to eat up so much of our budget and has not been reduced. Republicans like Paul Ryan used to actually make a push on this issue. However, on the primary campaign trail in '16, Trump was one of the only Republicans to explicitly call for not only protecting, but increasing, spending on things like Social Security and Medicare. And he was generously rewarded for that stance by the senior vote. Again, things we'll be paying for later.

4. Free trade. Trump has engaged in trade wars with our allies and rivals. I actually support his efforts to hold China accountable on trade, but not his reneging on trade deals with countries that should be our friends. (NAFTA, the TPP, and cross-Atlantic trade)

5. The examples of Trump's disrespect are too numerous to list, but include: 1. Mocking that disabled reporter; 2. "Grab 'em by the pussy," 3. The Mexicans-are-rapists comments; 4. His birtherism against Obama; 5. "Lock her up" against HRC; 6. Unfounded allegations of corruption against Biden. All of this is poisoning American politics.

1. Tax Cuts are a staple of the GOP and always have been. It has always been a GOP point to cut out red tape and taxes as the GOP being conservative has always been a huge part of the conservative party. Thus terming them Conservative. Get it?
2. Alliances Shitting on people as you state it is not factual and every President does it as you cannot bow to every foreign power to get your way. Obama shitted on our allies. Bush shit on our allies. Sometimes they have to be reminded that without us most of them would be German or Japanese. You might not like that fact but it still remains a fact. We don't have to suck up to other foreign powers in order to get them to do the right thing that is why they are all sovereign nations. They can put on their big boy pants.
3. Entitlement Spending. Every time Trump attempts to cut a program that are not needed for people with jobs you turd bags scream. The latest chicken little scenario here is food stamps. How about people like you GET JOBS and earn your way? That would do a lot to help with entitlement spending. Trump has cut a lot but your Democrats are begging to give it away again and then some. So nice try once again no facts just rhetorical nonsense you heard on CNN.
4. Free trade is in the name. We are free to trade with trade partners when the deal is beneficial to both parties. Subject to review and negotiation to better our end of the deal at any time. Any one arguing that fighting to get a better deal for the United States is missing the point of Free Trade entirely. Nothing entitles another country to have open trade with us if they are robbing us blind.
5.Mocking- Fake Grab em by the pussy Trump said it BILL CLINTON and BIDEN actually DO IT. The mexicans are rapists.....sadly they seem to have a large group of rapists coming across the border illegally hell they are raping other IMMIGRANTS. Lock her up. If you destroyed data, deleted information and lied your ass would be in jail. She should be locked up and the only thing that saved her is the money she stole ask Haiti.
Unfounded allegations to Biden. The son was on a board of a Ukranian company using his name and the VICE PRESIDENT to alter the outcome of investigations and getting millions. Your idea of unfounded are weak and should be better since you like grasping at straws.

Mic drop here. Stupid bitch came to a fact fight armed with rhetoric. This is why we will destroy you in the future civil war.
