Doug Stanhope | AGREED,HATE SPEECH IS TOO AMORPHOROUS HARD TO PIN DOWN,AND GIVES THE STATE ANOTHER WEAPON TO SHUT DOWN DISSENT | image tagged in doug stanhope | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
never really got onboard with the whole "hate speech" train.saw too much wiggle room for it to be exploited.

but I am also a free speech absolutist.

I usually disagree with you, but on this - we're on the same page. I feel that people who filter their speech for the comfort of others do less communicating than the rest of us - who just speak.

No such thing. Free Speech is free speech. Hate speech would be relative to the listener.

How about, "Pigs in a blanket, fry em like bacon" or "The only good Fascist is a dead fascist" Seems those are ok with most leftists. It is all free speech. If you don't like free speech, leave the land of Free Speech!

No crime without a victim. Now if it could be proven that they hung someone, then that is a murder charge.

what specific slang, jargon or rhetoric is responsible for inciting violence?
was it the word that was the matchpoint?
or was it the political, cultural and socioeconomic atmosphere that lent itself vulnerable to being blown up by fiery words? passionate rhetoric?

when we target the words and ignore the underlying pressure cooker that creates the environment that lends itself vulnerable to inciting language.

we become the thought police.

when you start to restrict one of the most powerful rights we have under the guise of "protecting the marginalized and vulnerable"
you open the door for massive abuse by those in power, and can affect not only social interactions but can infect vital institutions we all rely on,and already HAVE affected those institutions.

the best antiseptic is to drag those f**ked up,fringe f**kwits into the light.
I finally got purgey to admit..openly..that he is a neo-Nazi.

I could have never done that if his speech had been hampered.
because if you restrict speech,
you aren't restricting Nazis from thinking like a fascist.
you aren't stopping a racist from thinking like a racist.
you aren't swinging the thoughts of a homophobe,or an islamaphobe.

all you have done is pushed that f**ked up thinking into the underground.where they gather like roaches...
and spread like a virus.
just look at how the neo-nazis in America have had to create their own dog-whistle language to communicate!
and they have f**king grown in size!
all because some well intentioned, but short sighted, moralizing lib decided that "speech can be hateful",and should be made illegal.

words are an amorphous and fluid means to express complex feelings, thoughts and visions and are entirely inadequate at times.
to attempt to legislate words is an exercise in futility, and hands far too much power to the state to impose restrictive guidelines, based on an incredibly flimsy dialectic, and can easily be exploited for nefarious means.

naw man...
I want that shit up front and out in the open.
so I can ridicule them relentlessly.
the "call-out culture" needs to be called out.

because good intentions do not always produce good results.
and can,and usually are, exploited by the powerful eventually.

and we all are the lesser for it.

I appreciate your cogent, lengthy, and well thought-out reply.

However, I disagree from you somewhat. I think you are overlooking the value of placing social prohibitions against hate speech. If the hateful language is ostracized, then by extension the ideas are, too. It then carries a social cost to express Neo-Nazi views.

That is all I and I think most liberals are saying. We don’t want to criminalize it, just heavily ostracize it.
2 ups, 5y
that is an entirely different, and valid, argument.
one I absolutely agree with.

On that final breath you take, when you stand before the glory of your creator I hope you are so bold to stand and take that path. You won't but you will still have to accept the fate of your actions. The good news is. You get to decide your path.

Moving words from a dude who's called me all kinds of shit today.

The Bible says nothing about abortion, and I'm not religious anyway, so, next.

It gets you commenting so you sound a bit hypocritical. I think it does bother you or you would not spend time mentioning it. That is like saying I hate cheeseburgers, but you had too eat one to say you hate it.

Just keep in mind it is a meme site. 90% are below 18 on meme sites. The memes that are good are coming from adult minds not brainwashed children and they are too young to understand any arguments that make sense.

"but u boomerz hopped on after wee kool kidz pounded the latest tumblr trending hashtag to death"

Rather telling when all that today's kidz can do is BRAG about being the first to jump on the latest Tumblr recycled line because they can't think for themselves.

It was a funny little line the first hundred times I saw it, but it only applies to one group of people who are typing behind an anonymous identity online. So these idiots were calling everybody "boomer" which makes it a non-nonsensical term; early retirement, ironically. "Whatever", says the Gen "Xer". That one still gets mileage, even today.
1 up, 5y
I used to joke after Tweeter became a thing that they were gonna come out with "Bits" that would be like 3 words then eventually "Bit" which would be just 1. Then finally the clueless generation would be communicating solely with emojis.
Seeing all these posts of just "Boomer" makes it seem like I had given these unimaginative dolts too much credit.

"I jumped on that bandwagon when it still cool" said no one with an actual brain ever.

Well yeah, because sometimes people say or do something so stupid they make my brain scrunch up in the pain of having to process said stupidity, which has unflattering effects on facial control.

should i have put quotes around my reply so you could process that i was displaying how defending hate speech like it's something people *should* be saying isnt a good idea?
2 ups, 5y,

Yes, indeed you should have. Then I would have replied in a similar fashion with "youre just mad cuz u cant call black people the n word conservative 🤓"

I mean, that /is/ what you people like to say, isn't it?
