224sin.jpg (click to show) Let's see... I pull into a gas station, pull up to a pump, and I am fully re-fueled in about 10 minutes. And in that process I pay road taxes to maintain the roads. An electric car takes a substantial amount of time refueling, and in most cases, the electricity was generated from fossil fuel sources. Oh... And no road taxes were paid by the person driving the electric car. Utter nonsense!

While I appreciate the humor in this and dont understand many of the energy saving methods out there today, I can say that the generator is probably there as an emergency power source only. I'm an electrical engineer, see it done this way regularly. As more and more EV's get on the road, the reliability of power stations will become more and more critical. But, if the gen-set is there as the primary source of power, then that truly is asinine.

Please explain how trucking in diesel fuel with a diesel tanker to power a diesel generator that produces less energy than it consumes is more economical.

Seat of the pants, back of the envelope, very rough calculation. I'm going to guess the conversion to electric process loses between 35 and 60% of the original power potential.

That's assuming direct conversion rather than through a storage medium like lead-acid or lithium, which would be even less efficient.
