Conservatives (as a whole, most, like people in general, do not give spit) do contribute more money and time. However, there's a tendency for it to be as asked by their church, and not for causes outside of that.
It is not accident that taxes are highest in European countries that are more homogeneous, as they see it as going to help their fellow citizens, whereas in more mixed places like the USA, people have more qualms about it, thinking more about themselves.
That is why taxes are a necessity, after all. Otherwise there isn't a whole lot that charitable contributions courtesy of church going conservatives is going to do in the poorer States they tend to be concentrated in.
