I know I hate having to remove the entire air filter housing to change my front turn signal bulb. Which is why I want to put high voltage LED's in. And I drive an American full sized sedan. It's supposed to be more simple than that.

Honda, Toyota, German vehicles are designed by engineers not accountants.

Said like someone who has never had to do work on an Audi. Absolute nightmare.

*Said like someone who's never worked on a 1976 Ford. Vehicles don't get much more simple to work on than a pre fuel injection American car.

Which still isn't as bad as where the PCV valve is on a 2006 Ford Escape-under the f-ing manifold

Yeah the side mirrors are all pretty much take the door apart jobs these days. The PCV valve thing is retarded tho! Dang

I could only imagine how long it would have taken me to do myself. When I did the PCV valve on my Hyundai it took longer to bug the part than it did to actually replace

Wow. It's amazing how the simplest things can take the most work. And vice versa!

Changing my oil takes a couple hours. Mostly because I have a skid plate that needs to come off and go back on. And it has a cartridge oil filter which has a few added steps

What do you drive? I have a skid plate but the filter is far enough back that I can get to it. Oil drips all over the plate when I take the filter off though, so I cant imagine how much crap is built up on top of it, probably should take it off and clean it sometime haha

I have a Tundra. I can get to my oil plug, but the filter is all the way in the front underneath. Plus, with it being cartidge, I have to drain the filter housing before I can remove it

That way I'd have an engine made from tornadoes that would last infinity miles...the Toyota actually fit my budget better, the Chevys are pretty pricey

Lol, glad you liked it! I've laughed at that one a bunch of times...and I drive a Silverado which makes it even funnier!

Same here, real pain in the but, but just the side panel.

I can see having a little access cover for cosmetic reasons. That's fine, but give me an F-ing break. Why the entire door panel

But yes thank goodness for YouTube. I had it out a few weeks ago with a “maintenance tech supervisor” here for base housing. That guy was a dick!

I see folks wondering why no consideration is given to repair and maintenance, but it there is. The manufacturers and engineers don't want you to service your own vehicle. They want to to pay and pay.

And while they're working on that, maybe they can work on engineering shit /without/ planned obsolescence in mind...

Can't speak to the Headlights,

but I spent an Hour in a Parts Store Parking Lot (in Minnesota) last week, changing 2 tiny Tail-Light Bulbs because the 'engineer' thought it'd be good Idea to to put all 8 (yes EIGHT) rear lights in a single assembly and Mount it on the Trunk Lid

Not only did it require 7 nuts to be removed, but 4 of said nuts were recessed on 1"+ Bolts and could only be removed with a deep socket

Safe to say that who ever designs the average car puts absolutely No thought into any repairs that need to be made to it... (5 will get you Ten they all Lease..)
3 ups, 6y
That sounds like no fun! I had to take 3 bolts off the headlight assembly both sides, 5 bolts off the radiator shroud, "peel back" the shroud and front bumper trim, and force the headlight assembly forward until one corner popped out over the top of the fender. Then fish my hand in the dark down into a small cavity to twist off the lamp holder. Obviously not the best way to do it but I swear I really would have had to take the whole front clip completely off.

What on earth kind of a car has 8 brake light bulbs?
0 ups, 6y,

8 Tail Lights... not Brake lights (the entire ass end of the car has like 15 bulbs of varied size

and Buick LeSabre

From the Middle

two Tiny 'Plate Lights' so that your License Plate number is illuminated (one for Numbers, one for the letters)

then on either side is a Large Bulb (about the size of your thumb, not unlike the Headlight Bulb) with a clear cover

Outside of those are the 'the Lights' 2 on either side with the Red cover (each about the size of a woman's 'Pinky tip'... I think one of each is is technically a brake light, but I've never stood outside my own car... I just now the rear glows red when I apply the brakes so I assume the Proper Lights are working accordingly

for a Total of 8 on the Trunk Lid...

The Brake Lights & Blinkers are actually mounted in the Trunk itself (2 or 3 bulbs on either side... the same long bolts but enough room to actually undo them with a wrench Or your fingers once you get them started (and then there's the center brake light in the rear window... I shudder to think how that bastard is mounted
0 ups, 6y
Ah that makes sense. Those Buicks with their hundred million tail lights. At least it has fewer than the Park Avenue. I liked my old Lincoln because all I had the do to change the tail light bulb was pull the trunk liner back which was just carpet material held with velcro and quarter turn the bulb out. Any bulb that wasn't accessible from behind was simply 2 screws to take off the cover. Can't beat the classics for a lot of reasons.

I think engineers should be forced to work on the stuff they design. down to the very last nut they hide behind other parts. This goes for ALL machinery, not just cars. Cheese and Rice, i think these people are masochists the way they come up with some of their designs!!!
5 ups, 6y
It seems particularly bad with automotive engineering, lots of dummy designs. I seriously think that they do some on purpose to keep dealers in business to take care of these impossibly difficult repairs
