Disconfirmation Bias – Scrutinizing opposing evidence more harshly than evidence that aligns with one’s views. 3. Identity-Protective Cognition – Rejecting facts that threaten one’s social, political, or ideological identity. 4. The BACKFIRE Effect – When confronted with contradictory evidence, LEFTY MUST DOUBLE DOWN on their beliefs instead of reconsidering; Breaking out of Motivated Reasoning requires INTELLECTUAL INTEGRITY, CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS, HUMILITY, & EXPOSURE to DIVERSE VIEWPOINTS.
