Scare tactics yourself, for decades right-wing governments always pulled red scare tactics pushing the notion that communism is a threat to America which lead to people who weren't communists being wrongfully prosecuted thanks to Joseph McCarthy, even Dwight D. Eisenhower who fought actual communists that were a threat condemned McCarthy for the reprehensible man he was.
