I didn't think Marx had any clout when Lincoln was president. But I don't know everything. That explains why Lincoln nearly destroyed the 10th amendment to end slavery.

But why would Marx care about ending slavery? He hated blacks, but then Marx hated everyone. Perhaps that's just his opinion on how to end slavery if you wanted to end slavery. He probably didn't care one way or the other.

That makes me wonder, did Lincoln oppose slavery just for political reasons and not for moral reasons. Because there's absolutely nothing moral about starting a war for any other reason than the preservation of liberty. Especially a civil war that pit family against family in some cases. Even in Lincoln's case because Jefferson Davis was Lincoln's cousin.

Sure the war wasn't fought, in part, over the transcontinental railroad? I know it was fought because rich people wanted to keep their slaves and that and other economic and governmental representation reasons lead the South to want to secede from the Union. Lincoln was obsessed with keeping the South from leaving.

I had no idea Marx had any involvement with the Civil War. I thought he was too busy, at that time, writing love poetry to Mephistopheles. Well I guess his Communist Manifesto had already been around several years before the war. I didn't think any one took anything Marx wrote seriously until after he died. I guess there has always been stupid gullible people, even in the mid 1800's.

Just Recall that Jeff Davis was Secretary of War for Franklin Pierce, created and was in charge of the Topographical Corps of Engineers. Of which later Railroad Co. Jeff Davis wanted the 2 southern routes of the 5 he had ordered surveyed completed first, as that would keep Atlanta as the main Trade Hub, and build it with Slave Labor. The middle route was completed by 1869. The other 4 that were all planned by subordinates of Jeff Davis, took a bit more time, yet were all Completed in U.S. Grant's lifetime.

Yet, maybe for more reasons and contributing variables than they've cared to consider,
and that's understandable, as it is heart-wrenching material to work through.

I think it was mostly about slavery at least as far as the rich folks were concerned. The southern states were not getting the representation they thought they needed in Congress.

I think how Lincoln handled it was wrong. I don't know how we could have ended slavery without violating the 10th amendment. It had to end. I think it was on it's way out anyway. Automation replaced the need for slaves/farm workers. We should have abolished slavery at the founding and we almost did if it wasn't for South Carolina and Georgia. We needed to have a unanimous support with all 13 colonies because we were going up against the world's super power to get our independence. If we excluded any state they might have supported England.

It took Great Britain 182 years to pay off the loans they took to free their slaves with Just Compensation for Property Loss to the Owners of said property.

What if Lincoln had taken out a loan instead and bought the slaves freedom as was the Precedence set ? What if Lincoln and his team had followed the Constitution at the time, and adhered to the 5th Amendment and it's eminent domain clause rather than just stealing the value of property from the owners, however vile that may seem today. Was the UK more Civil in keeping their peace through compensation in the progress of change?

Going to war for to be moral, for anything other than Liberty rings true in the US Civil War example, the Liberty of the Enslaved is Moral. Yet taking others legal property w/o just compensation for their loss is not moral. Nor is killing your neighbor a moral act.
There is that to consider as well.
The UK just recently got out of Slave Owner Compensation debt in 2015. 11 years ago.

The USA could have had it paid off by the year 2043 (1861AD + 182yrs = 2043CE)
Maybe less time, as the USA only had about 1/2 the number of Slaves as the UK.
This is an apples to apples comparison with the nation that BROUGHT THE SLAVE TRADE TO the America.

In particular North America, as well as SPAIN & Portugal bringing Many more humans in bondage to South America, Central America, as well as the Caribbean.
