One was a demonstrator who smiled at and told the agent who shot her that all was fine and she bore no ill will against him moments before getting killed by him.
The other was trying to break into a locked chamber in order to execute members of Congress.
Normally I would say that the problem with whataboutisms is that what you're actually doing is admitting that you agree with that which you are pretending to criticize.
But in this case, not at all, because you are absolutely correct, they are different, very different.
