Actually FDR did demolish parts of the white house to expand the west wing and update plumbing and electrical work. It was likely the largest renovation in history after Madison's complete rebuild following the fire of 1814. Trump is also doing an expansion just out of private donations and not taxpayer dollars like the other presidents: but the left dislikes him so when he does it it's not okay, just okay for every other president.
