I know some people who genuinely think that kids shouldn't be freeloaders and that they should work full time from age 8 or else they shouldn't get food
Child labor is literally what China; a communist country does.
If you try and say, "China isn't communist" or "Communist countries don't exist" then that proves that communism doesn't work, because if it did, then more countries would implement it.
That makes it even less appealing to countries, since communism demands that those countries are torn down, and replaced with rogue tribes and dismantled communities. Where order does not exist, and chaos and hellfire takes over.
Property rights exist, food rights don’t. People have the freedom to produce their own food, on their own property. Hunters and farmers eat. Makers vs Takers. The path is the reward, food demanded, is a reward denied.
We are meant to be a community. Maybe it was just my school that did this but at my school I was taught that it was my responsibility to help others.
So while my school isn't really communist, and never directly told me to be communist, I can say that my school is part of the reason I am a communist.
Did they teach you personal responsibility? How about your intellectual property is yours, not the State or community? Forced charity , is not charity. It’s time to read Atlas Shrugged, or at least watch the movie, The Fountainhead.
So if someone at your school has no ability to contribute to a charity because of being destitute himself you’re going to put them down — that doesn’t seem charitable to me.
The interesting part is that what you just described concerning responsibility to help others is one of the main themes of Jesus' teachings, one of Christianity's cornerstones. Gotta say, I'm quite curious how many of the commenters in this thread identify as Christian.
A part of that is what Paul said to the Thessalonians — if any will not work, neither should he eat. In Christianity we take care of ourselves, our families, and do good for others as we have opportunity. But we don’t encourage laziness by giving to those who refuse to help themselves and want to live on someone else’s dime.
In theory they are supposed to. In practice it doesn’t happen. See the history of Jamestown, Virginia where a common store system said all food supplies would be gathered together and dispensed to everyone — each supposed to contribute according to his ability and receive according to need. Jamestown nearly starved because nobody was willing to work as food would be provided. But communism will not give me the 50 wooded acres and bolt-action .30-06 with optics and suppressor that I need.
"Jamestown nearly starved because nobody was willing to work as food would be provided."
Nope; Jamestown nearly starved because they established with the expectation that they would be able to trade with the locals for food and did not go in anticipating need to grow all their own.
Nobody guarantees equal pay outcomes for different jobs. Find a job you can do, and become very good at it, then work your way up the pay scale like everyone else has to do.
