However, they no longer have the popular vote and Electoral College pegs to hang their hats on.

Why would anyone do that? We don’t want densely populated areas deciding who will be president for the whole country.

News flash: Land doesn’t vote. People do.
Why should someone’s vote be essentially worth more because of where they live?
2 ups, 3d,
2 replies
News flash: nobody believes land votes. But the minority vote of less populated places also needs to be given consideration — something that does not happen if the larger cities get to override everything.

Cities don’t vote either. It’s not like every person in NYC votes exactly the same
1 up, 3d,
1 reply
People in NYC vote for candidates who cater to their needs, such as mass transit, office jobs, tourism, etc. People in rural communities vote for candidates who cater to needs such as agriculture, mining, industry, etc.
Do you think Harris would give a rat’s tail about fracking if we used the popular vote?
0 ups, 3d,
1 reply
Harris doesn’t give a rat’s tail anyway. She only acted like that to get Pennsylvania votes.
Without the electoral college, candidates can be more truthful on where they stand instead of having to lie to different state populations to get their electoral votes
0 ups, 3d
In other words, ignore different states because they only care about cities with the highest populations.
0 ups, 3d,
1 reply
Psst. Sometimes the word “cities” refers to their populations. That’s the way English works.
0 ups, 3d
And like I said, a single population doesn’t vote all the same.
0 ups, 3d
Extra consideration. Wyoming's votes are in effect worth four times that of the State of California. California. The entire state.
1 up, 3d,
1 reply
That’s a news flash for you?
I see you agree with the electoral college from your 2nd sentence.
0 ups, 3d,
1 reply
No, the opposite. If someone votes in Wyoming, then that is essentially worth more than a vote in NYC because since there’s less people there, it means they have more say in where their electoral college votes go to.

And to counter the argument of different states being worth more, Wyoming has such a small population that they have the minimum amount of electoral votes (being 3). So if you do the math on the population, it essentially means an individual vote in Wyoming is worth more than an individual vote in NYC.

I say phooey to that! Let the people directly elect the president instead of the old, archaic system.
0 ups, 3d,
1 reply
So, you must also believe that Washington DC, Delaware and Vermont also have more say because they have the minimum votes too.

The minimum votes ensure that smaller states get a minimum amount of representation. NYC’s population makes a vote in a small town in upstate NY worth more than a vote in Phoenix, AZ, by your logic.

The “archaic” system makes sure that smaller states have at least some say in who gets elected.
0 ups, 3d,
1 reply
I do believe that, yes. It doesn’t matter if a star is blue or red, its size should not mean a citizen’s individual vote has any different weight.

So what if most of the population lives in a few big cities? After all, then wouldn’t the policy made from those elections benefit the most people?
0 ups, 3d,
3 replies
Yeah, they would benefit large densely populated areas - thus giving those people the most say. Or, as you put it, making their vote higher weighted than rural communities.

Our founding fathers knew that was a bad idea so they came up with the representative system we have now. More populated states still have a larger representation. But at least smaller states get some representation.
0 ups, 3d,
1 reply
Where are you getting the idea that one person having one vote has unbalanced weight without the electoral college? One’s political alignment isn’t automatically decided by their location. A person who votes for the losing party in a big city loses an election just as much as one in a rural community. There is no higher weight. One person, one vote.
0 ups, 3d
You’re missing the point. To win the popular vote, the most efficient use of time and money is to focus on large cities where they can swoon the most people at a time. This was more so before we had modern communication systems.
So, the rural communities get ignored because it takes more time and money to meet with the same number of people because they are spread so far apart.
Since people in large cities would have the ears of the candidates they have a greater influence (weight) than people in rural communities.
0 ups, 3d
It is, but it’s not the end all be all. Heck, we saw it in this election cycle. Trump’s rally sizes were dwindling, yet he finally won the popular vote.
0 ups, 3d,
1 reply
Good point, but you’re forgetting that with that increased technology means increased communications. While in person communication is by all means important, many voters will just go off what they’ve seen on television or social media about a candidate and never even think about seeing them in person. So a candidate’s message can reach further than the cities in which they campaign
0 ups, 3d
But you see they still do in person rallies, so in person is important.

Gotta take the lumps with the good. Remember that no matter how cheap gas prices get, they have the added cost of Ukrainian blood, as well as any other nation Putin wants to invade since he knows Trump won’t stop him

Well the Ukrainians blood was spilling gallons upon gallons with the democratic leadershipin place wasn't it? How long would you spill thier blood fighting an endless war? So cheap gas and Peace with no blood split is a good thing wouldn't you say? Also I hope you can be woman enough to admit you are wrong when none of these end of the world prediction come to pass... Don't be like Gumshoe and end your account because he was wrong on everything he predicted about Trump.

If the borders of Ukraine are the same in four years as they are now, gloat all you want.

Heck, I know I was wrong about the election results. I know I underestimated just how much America abhors the thought of a woman president. But now when Project 2025 (or Agenda 47, whatever euphemism they’re using for it these days) is implemented, and prices soar due to tariffs, you’ll have no one to blame but yourselves.

And again, if nothing like that happens in four years, feel free to gloat

That’s the problem with Democrats. You need to elect someone based on more than their gender and skin color.

“Mocked is hired? You hired her?”
What are you talking about?
Biden hired her mainly because of her race and gender - textbook DEI hire.
She is mocked in memes because of that, among other things.

I was talking about you saying you hired her

Yes, I’ve seen memes mocking the left for voting based on gender and/or skin color. I’ve made a few myself.
What’s your point?

You really just noticed that you and the rest made memes mocking Kamala as a DEI hire, to put it euphemistically?

Exactly - hired because of her gender and race. That’s what DEI is about.

Mocked is hired? You hired her? Interesting.

Harris ran on neither of those things. You all just assumed she did because of her gender and skin color.

Find me clips of Harris campaigning on either of those things unprompted and unprovoked. I’ll wait.
0 ups, 3d,
1 reply
I didn’t say she ran on that. I’m saying the left votes based on that.

Biden chose Harris to be his VP because she’s a female minority. He also made gender and race the primary qualifications for his SCOTUS nominee.
0 ups, 3d,
1 reply
I disagree with that. I voted for Harris because I didn’t like Trump’s tariff plan or Project 2025/Agenda 47.

And yes, of course Biden chose Harris for those reasons, as well as her being Someone young to contrast his age. The whole VP position has been used to round out a ticket. Wanna know why Pence was selected in 2016? Because he was a hardcore conservative that contrasted with Trump’s liberal leaning past. And Vance was selected also due to his youth, and being able to articulate Trump’s ideas more cleanly.

As for the SCOTUS Nominee, I doubt that’s truly the case. But given I don’t know much about that, I’ll hear your evidence for that
0 ups, 3d,

Saying “America abhors the thought of a woman president” indicates that’s the main reason you voted for her. Because it certainly isn’t the reason people voted against her.

Yes, Biden said he would nominate a black woman to the Supreme Court - saying “It’s long overdue.” So, race and gender were the two main qualifications. That’s got to be embarrassing for her, knowing she wasn’t picked for judicial qualifications.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/26/politics/shortlist-breyer-replacement-supreme-court/index.html
0 ups, 3d
I was indicating that was the main reason people didn’t vote for Harris. Or Hilary for that matter (but Clinton also has some shady Epstein stuff about her, but that only officially came out after she lost).

That being said, I see your point on the SCOTUS thing. But to keep it in perspective, he did nominate a qualified person for the job, one who I’m sure was just as qualified as other candidates

How about instead of moving goal posts about Ukraines borders, how about if there is peace. Isn't peace the end result ? How about I get to gloat if there aren't 2 major wars happening at the same time in 2 years, there is not an invasion on our southern border and Illegal gang bangers taking over apartments on American soil. wouldn't those things be something you are happy about as well? We can both gloat about American success, that is all anyone Who voted for Trump wants.
0 ups, 3d
Peace means nothing unless the terms are fair.

Let’s say you built a shed in your backyard, and your neighbor decided they wanted it, so they squat in it. You argue with the neighbor, but they refuse to move, and say they also want your house. So You call the police on them, and the police say you have to give up your shed and then your neighbor won’t take your house. In the end, peace is technically established, but is that fair to you at all?

Going back to Ukraine, that’s pretty much Trump’s plan for “peace”: enabling a murderous bully. So you can’t say I was wrong about my predictions until Trump exits office without this happening.

If Trump does bring peace to these wars in a fair manner, he brings down prices directly through his policies, and he secures the border, then yeah I’ll admit I’m wrong as each thing happens.

Here’s to hoping it does. And as long as we’re hoping on things nigh impossible to happen, here’s to hoping I win the lottery.

I may very well be the only one on this site who correctly predicted Trump would win in 2016. Even his supporters didn't believe he'd win. What I said to the naysayers starting in 2015 was, "I got one word for you: George W Bush"

I'm one of only three individuals I've heard of on the entire planet that predicted Trump would win. I'm sure there's a couple more, but that's all I know of for now.

I also said that the only reason why he'd lose in 2020 was because of Covid.

That’s like saying someone trying to intervene in a man assaulting a woman is responsible for whatever injuries the woman suffers from the assailant.
