Smith took out VA Gov. Bob McDonnell as a potential Republican presidential candidate–on bogus corruption charges. That conviction was later reversed by the Supreme Court in a 9-0 ruling.

Given Smith’s track record, the only goal of this investigation/ prosecution is to smear Trump in the media before the election.

Smith also did not comply with a Congessional subpoena in the Lois Lerner IRS scandal.

Governor Smith was convicted of bribery. He returned $120,000 in ill-gotten gains to his benefactor and apologized to the people. His conviction was upheld in the appellate court. The Supreme Court vacated the conviction, citing problems with the wording of the law. They recommended re-trying him under a different law. The DoJ passed on the option of another trial. This hardly meets the standards for political persecution.

A long upheld principle in law is that ambiguity in law shall be decided in favor of the defendant. Smith willfully ignored that when he pursued an extreme over-reach of the definition of bribery. The SCOTUS unanimously upheld that principle.

The original Judge and Appeals Court missed that. Good that the Supreme Court caught it. What's your take on te fact that they recommended a retrial under a slightly different statute? How common is that?

The bottom line is the conviction was vacated and the DOJ chose not to to retry. Nonetheless the DOJ prevailed in disrupting presidential aspirations and made him spend a lot of time and money defending himself.
Deja vu.

McDonnell's career in politics was over before Smith filed charges. In his farewell speech, which took place well before charges were filed, he conceded to assembled members of the state House and Senate that his actions left an "adverse public impression." He took responsibility for his actions and returned $120,000.00 in questionable gifts from a state contractor. Such public actions, not the DoJ's prosecution of him sealed his political fate.

Why go for a plea bargain when you aren't guilty? I dunno, let's ask Joe Biden and Burisma.
3 ups, 1y
as long as it ends with him being hung on the Capital lawn by his noose. Count me IN!

Pleading guilty to two felonies, would take care of that.

I am not a lawyer nor a legal expert. But, a growing number of such people across the political spectrum say Trump is probably in legal peril. Blind loyalty will not save him. Political violence is ill advised and destined to fail. The time to make tough political choices is near.

Trump literally wants every GOP Presidential Candidate to promise that they’ll pardon him.

The only people talking about political violence are you and your political party and the misleadia.

On the day the perpetrator of the worst antisemitic attack in our history was found guilty and law enforcement is warning about groups like the Patriot Front causing a 12% jump in hate crimes recently, you post denialism. Why am I not surprised?
1 up, 1y,
1 reply
No. I posted the truth.

I have never heard of the Patriot Front.
Usually, whenever I have read about any group of extremists with the word “Front” attached to it were invariably leftist/communist in origin and make up.

In my estimation, the jump in crime is a result of liberal Soros-backed DA’s being extremely soft on real crimes and not prosecuting violent criminals and absolutely rabid in their lust to prosecute people who defend themselves or others against those aforementioned violent criminals.

And from the land that birthed the National Front, no less?

You said you never even heard of beer being sold in Target:

Your take on crime is one derived from a view from afar, infused by a phony (adopted) partisan perspective.

I have no clue about that Front, either, as I have never heard of it, either.
The rest of your shit is just that…shit.
My take on crime is fact. You support criminal punk thugs.

We don't have the National Front here. It's one of your parties.
1 up, 1y
Neither do we. Not any party I am familiar with.
But, shit, you sure know a lot about them and all the other fringe groups out there.
Give yourself a hometown cheer!!

It's ok, it's ok.
Not everybody has been blessed to live in America, let alone the greatest city in the world ever.

Hey, we share with eveyone. Remember, though he's stuck in Florida, Trump originated here, and would have been nothing if he wasn't. Word has it that Melanie will divorce his gelatinous pile of an ass to come back in 2025.

And I have done both. Born in the cesspool known as NewYork City. Blessed to have two hard-working parents who emigrated to the US and built successful careers that enabled our family to live all over the world.
Now I thrive in the greatest state in the Union and thank God that we finally settled down here.
You…not so much. You haven’t lived, nor probably traveled, further than 10 miles from where you were dropped.
No wonder you’re a bitter and aging hipster relegated to making memes that no one sees.

I don’t give a rip about Trumps personal life. You are obsessed over it.

Of course you haven't, despite telling me years ago you were there at the time and everyone on Earth having heard of it since.

No, you're not.
You don't even know what Target sells, are unaware that we have local elections between the presidential ones, don't know that Reagan was governor of California or know his most quoted speeches. You didn't even know you've had freezing blackouts in winter where you claim to live. But you do know "Lest we forget" is an oft heard saying in Armistice Day in the USA. Sure, ok.
1 up, 1y
I don’t shop at Target.
The rest of your crap is just crap.

Why are you so triggered?

No, you haven't, and no, you don't.

If you had ever even been here, you would have known that Trump was always in the papers - for nothing. Not only has he been the guy next door, he's been the lame joke next door since the 70s.

I've even walked past his house back then, and didn't know till about a decade ago because it were no big deal. Family friends we know from there took us on a tour after dinner at a restaurant to see the changing neighbohood, McMansions taking over classic old homes. "Oh, that was Trump's house there," they said. Just another domicile in a neighborhood of monied people. We have lots of those here. It isn't so special anymore when even actual stars from everywhere - even your country - move here. At least a Rock star or movie celeb is known and liked for something.

I've seen more of them than you would if you took the tour bus through Bevely Hills - on the street (Bill Murray), on a plane (Esai Morales), telling jokes on 8th St multiple times before he got discovered (Rick Aviles), another that grew up one block away from me (I won't say her name for obvious reasons), the bf of a friend (Charlie Anthax), speaking at Fordham U (Casper Weinberger (ugh) landing in a helicopter on Eddie's Parade) and Corey Feldman (yikes!), lived in the neighborhood Dion & the Belmonts, Joe Pesci, and Chazz Plaminteri came from, one of those (Palminteri) at the Italian Feast on Arthur, even on the friggin subway once (Phillip Glass), aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand I didn't bother talking to a single one (except a brief q to Murray) because there was no need to, we just let them be here.

I understand that might be difficult for someone not used to such an overabundance to the point it means nothing and so someone like a Trump is a big deal to them. But that's not my problem now, is it?

Who is "we"?
You are not one of us. Never have been, never will be.

Yes, for the nth time, I am aware of what I typed. Hence my name attached to it.
Is this really that perplexing, or just standard go-to reply in all you replies? Why bother posting if it's the same irrelevance every time?
1 up, 1y
Right. I am not one of you. I am an American.
You, you’re a malcontent who supports violent criminals and hates this country. You deal in lies.
And, as usual, the balance of your rant is just more of your bullshit.
