Democrats don't like 1st amendment neither 2nd amendment. They don't like democracy
5 ups, 2y
Why would they? The 1st and 2nd Amendments are threats to their power and control.
5 ups, 2y
1st Amendment gives The People the Right to tell Government - "To buzz off!"
2nd Amendment gives The People the Right to tell Government - "Don't even think about it!"

If people can't or won't understand something that basic then they are lost in terms of what the US was founded.

That's a short version. But yes we need to be appreciative that Elon Musk thought the truth was important enough to let everyone know.
Just imagine how the White House will try to spin this today.

Yes, but isn't election interference a crime?
This is going to be a real scandal, so unless they totally ignore it which will make them look more guilty, they're going to have to say something. And I just don't see how they're going to be able to talk their way out of this.
2 ups, 2y,

That depends on the resolve of those in power to hold these criminals accountable... The whole cesspool is based on the concept of mutual destruction...

Funny you would say that.

1st amendment states that there is free speech, however that doesn't mean there won't be consequences if you say something bad, ex. racist comments --> getting fired from job is perfectly fine and not infringing on free speech
7 ups, 2y,

No, what you're explaining is controlling speech while you're at work, which your employer has the right to do, because he's paying you. Which is different from having your public comments censored by removal, where you are supposed to have the right to free speech. Do you understand the difference?
[deleted]

OK, remember this scene from one of the "Die Hard" sequels? You're free to do that. The only person that might censor you might be the citizens of the neighborhood you're in. The government, under the 1st amendment, has no authority to censor that.

As you said, your employer also has the right to control your speech. If you're working the counter at the local Big Kahuna Burger you can't say to the customer "Can I take your order (insert racial slur here)?"

The real gray area is the media can censor your shit. Most media is privately owned. So even though there are millions of subscribers to certain sites and they function as "the public square (see John McLain above) the currently have the right to censor your stuff since they own the site.
2 ups, 2y,

So, Twitter had the right to censor speech. Gotcha.
1 up, 2y,
2 replies
But the government does not have the right to tell them what to censor or not censor. That was a lot of pressure coming down on Twitter et al.

Read a book instead of burning one. Better yet, read the constitution.
0 ups, 2y
I’ve never burned a book. Nor ever sold one. My house is wall to wall books.

Not a single one contains info where the government compelled social media beyond that if it cannot regulate itself, the government will.

There is zero proof that the government specifically told them to label the Hunter laptop story as misinformation.

It was wrongly assumed through general bias, not helped by fringe media frequently crying wolf.

LOL better yet, TERMINATE IT!!

Trump denies he suggested ‘termination’ of Constitution, without deleting post.

On Truth Social on Saturday, he repeated false claims about election fraud, which he said "allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution."

Gov doesnt have the right to tell them what to censor (true) BUT trump has the right to allow the termination of our Constitution?!

MAGAs dont seem to know whats going on in their own party.....sad.
[deleted]
0 ups, 2y
Exactly! A private company that has rules THAT ONE AGREES TO when one signs up and HAS the right to 'censor' you when you break the rules!! "Free speech" is in regards to the government, NOT Twitter....

So, trump has the right to censor/terminate the Constitution? Gotcha.

Well, they’re both trolls.

Though Musk is an equal opportunity troll. Yeah, he talks smack to liberals but it’s more from a place of constructive criticism of his own beliefs.

Trump is just a stupid troll with inherited money whose only success was accidentally winning the 2016 election.

Buzz...wrong answer.

They're both successful business people. Who have done the cost rewards analysis, yet have done what's in the beat interest of all Americans. Not to compartmentalize Americans in groups making them easier to control.

And if you have to call people names, that really means you have no valid argument. For example the mayor of my city has called me a troll too, but what that says to me, is I'm getting a little to close for their comfort to what they're trying to keep quiet or cover up.

Thank you for visiting.

2 ups, 2y
I fail to see how my or your anecdotal measurements will lead to anything constructive.

I am working, I’m with my family, I have a job that I actually love. I actually benefited from Covid because it afforded me opportunities that I wouldn’t have risked if I had kept my job.

My benefits haven’t come at the expense of others. I certainly didn’t gain my new job because people refused to get a vaccinated, but I acknowledge many liberals MAY have received more economic favor than conservatives because of this. That was not strictly from a political standpoint but rather an ignorant one. I myself am moderately conservative yet I did get vaccinated. Mostly to protect elderly members of my family with whom I am responsible. I would be remiss to omit that I thought vaccinating would increase my eligibility to becoming employed again. I’m sure it would have!

Ultimately, I went toward my passion to become an artist and have enjoyed enough of a moderate success to able to financially support myself. I don’t know how long I’ll remain an artist as I don’t know if my work will continue to resonate with my current audience. I could peter out or my business could grow. That was always a risk but one much higher when I was employed because the amount of time it takes to invest in my labors would’ve impeded my original job as a teacher. I’m also getting paid as a tutor and substitute but these are less demanding of my time and are too far and in-between to remain a financial dependency. However, I’m always expanding my options. I could go back to teaching but I like to approach things with the mindset of… “what can I do now” rather than focusing on “what can’t I do anymore” and limiting myself with what I have. I see far too many of my fellow conservatives falling into the trap of that second mindset. While I truly sympathize greatly, it just doesn’t seem like a mature and reasonable position to remain. Certainly not a profitable one.

I do see people struggling, but people are still coming out of the economic downturn from two years ago. It’s been a slow recovery. I would argue that a faster recovery would be artificial if not ultimately disastrous. I think whoever we elect in 2024 will receive immeasurable credit for getting us this far regardless of whether I see more or less strife or progress.

I thought it was the other way around. Putin utilizing Trump. I guess it was a win/win business deal. Well, at least when Trump was President.

Trump utilizing Elon? I dunno why that sounds so far-fetched. While I believe Trump is truly a socialist, I somehow dooooubt Musk would want him President? And Musk should know by now Trump never actually scratches anyone’s back after they scratch his.

So, what does Elon gain?

Sorry, I find Putin using Musk more likely than your conclusion. At least at this time.

Most people today are socio-captitalists. Even those saying they are socialists in the Democrat Party kinda fall under this category. The more reading I do into Musk, it appears he is very willing to cling to anything popular. I don’t see him as a Trump-like figure.

He is more Steve Jobs, and all the good and bad that comes with it. He wants to make the next iPhone, not a phone specifically, but a piece of tech everyone uses.

In that way, I think he might fail on the level of Trump.

But Trump moves from failure to failure and cause them success. Musk may yet have the ability to learn from his mistakes but I’ve yet to really see that. He is going down a rabbit hole now but ultimately, I think the experience may be good for him.
