Theoretically that would allow a president to do whatever they want so long as they're not around by the time an impeachment could happen..... During their last days in office, for example. Another possibility would be doing whatever they want and then resigning.

Objection. The part in red is not in the constitution.

Yea, that was memorandum from the desk of trump, and they want to claim it's in the constitution. When impeached, he was in office...sorry you have a hard time with that. Just because the trial is taking place after the fact, doeant mean anything. Sorry. The founding fathers are turning over in their graves if you think any losing president can do anything on his way out of office without consequence.

I expect some restrictions to executive powers soon would help with that but I won’t hold my breath.

Then again, we have a process in place to hold Presidents accountable. It sounds like some people want Trump to get off on a technicality rather than absolve him.

Never a great defense for people who claim to want those in power to have more accountability to then give exception to them just because they may lose voters.

Here’s a tip, they’re losing voters anyway because they support a guy who believes conspiracy theories and throws shade on the legitimacy of our elections. That alienated voters into not voting and LOST the Republicans the senate less than a month ago!

Supporting Trump now won’t regain the people who’ve lost faith in the system. It will just continue to spread this belief and legitimize Trump’s influence.

And that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

Because most Senate Republicans are cowards.

That is a great point, then it wasnt their fault...great point.

The only reason why the trial is happening now is because Bitch McConnell purposefully delayed it until Trump was out of office then of course tried to say we can't impeach him anymore.

Correct, the clerk would have rejected it.👍

You can't impeach a citizen, bub.
1 up, 3y,
1 reply
Hey bub.. The actions in question happened while he was in office so you absolutely can. Otherwise presidents could do whatever the f*ck they want and then simply resign... Or wait until the last few days of their term of office and then do whatever because there would not be enough time to impeach.

So you think you can impeach a non President? You are an idiot. If you hate the President, then impeach him before he leaves office. If you want to hold him to law, impeachment is not the thing for you.
0 ups, 3y,

No, no...I don't think you can impeach an ex-president I KNOW you can impeach an ex-president.. as well as however many other govt officials. It happened to some other govt bigwig who was allegedly taking kickbacks a long time go. He resigned. And they impeached him anyway.. Impeachment trial happened while he was out of office. And he was acquitted. (As trump will likely be).....

Technically trump was impeached before he left office though.. and the only reason this 2nd impeachment trial didn't happen before he left office is because Mitch Mcconnell blocked it.

Article II, Section 4 includes "POTUS, VPOTUS, and ALL civil Officers of the United States"

"The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors."

2 things.
1. He is out of office "The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for..."
2. He has not committed any misdomeners, only disagreed with the left.
1 up, 3y,

1.⬆️ As I said he was still IN office when he got impeached.. the fact that he was about to leave office when the impeachment happened is irrelevant.

2. A "high crime" is not necessarily a "crime".

This example is essentially stolen from Bowman but.... Let's say Joe Biden says f*ck this I'm going on vacation to Hong Kong for a year and he turns off his phone.

Would going on vacation and turning off your phone be committing a crime for you or me? No.

Should a president be impeached/removed/barred from holding future office for that? Yes.

They are impeaching him because if he wasn’t then he would receive aid and a secret service team for the rest of his life. And all of that money is coming from our tax dollars. And frankly he doesn’t deserve that.
0 ups, 3y
Whether you believe that he should or not, impeachment is not a tool to be used on people you dislike, it is for Presidents who do very bad things.

OK well the defense themselves said the video and evidence the prosecuting side showed was very compelling. It's not what he said ONE TIME, the day of the event. It was an ongoing series of events and statements. Listen to those that got arrested. They are the best witnesses for the prosecution.
0 ups, 3y,

Just not going to happen. Trump said in every video: "We love you and we understand, but this has to stop, you need to go home." Trump is not responsible for the people at the riot.

Again that was ONE time. WAY late. For months he whipped these idiots into a frenzy talking about "stopping the steal" etc.

Dude - listen to the people themselves. If they weren't working on Trumps orders they sure thought they were.

If you think making a motivational speech, or one that rials a certain viewpoint, then every politician should be in jail right now, especially the left.

People make their own choices, and they obviously did not listen to Trump when he told them to go home.

If a ton of people who clearly support a Democrat by social media posts, waving flags with the politicians name on them, wearing clothing and hats with the democrats name on them, attend rallies by said democrat say they are performing an insurrection because the democrat said or motivated them to…and that democrat is on video and Twitter for years spreading motivating lies….then yes they should all be held accountable. Jail? I don’t know about that. The impeachment trial is not a criminal trial. The insurrectionists should be for sure.

Biden wins ALL the electoral votes. EVERYWHERE. 538 to 0.

Only if found guilty by senate. Being impeached is one half of the process. Trump was impeached twice. The first time senate did not find him guilty so he wasn’t removed or banned from holding office. We are at that phase of the process again.

Pretty much. Under that same defense, one cannot impeach an outgoing, lame duck, or second term President at the end of his term. That is rubbish.

Trump was impeached while in office. The only reason why anyone is even arguing this is so that Trump cannot receive the follow up penalty of being disbarred from running for any office again. The Republican party would benefit in removing the very person who is keeping Republicans from voting.

By calling our elections a fraud simply because he failed to win.

Not only is he a disgrace to the Presidency but to Republicans.

You wanna know why Republicans lost the Senate?

It wasn't Democrats.

It was Trump.

Can’t say I’m happy to hear that. There are certainly a handful of crazy Democrats I’d like to not see in office though at this point they are outnumbered by the partisan hacks on the Republican side. Republicans need to get their heads out of their asses and start taking our declining country seriously. Ain’t no f**king D-list celebrity who can sell cheap merchandise gonna save the f**king country nor keep it on life support so they can cash out and seek sanctuary in other countries when this place inevitably pops like a frog on a hot plate.
