The soviet union was hardly the only socialist country. I believe there are a few others still standing. I'm not particularly fond of socialism but there appears to be a huge plot hole in your story.

If you read Marx/Lenin/Mao and others, they clearly state that socialism is just a step to complete communist tyranny. The mistake too many have been persuaded to believe is that numerous European countries are socialist when they have extensive, costly social programs. They are all free market economies. Right now the most notable communist countries are China, Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea. We have been indoctrinated to believe China has relaxed it's iron fist, but make no mistake, the CCP owns most businesses, you may be a free market capitalist only if the CCP allows you to and China may have the largest slave population on earth in the Muslim Yugurs. The Yugurs are the people you may have heard about who are used for very profitable Chinese organ harvesting, they are slaves in Nazi like work camps.
If you think a little about your "socialist" position, you are most likely in favor of equal justice under the law, caring for the less fortunate, letting people freely express themselves, etc. That is not Socialism.

I think the reason why China is such a special case is that it doesn't work to eradicate the free market except within it's own country. It works with it to profit from it, using it's lack of a democracies and free market to it's advantage on a world stage. That doesn't make them any less of an iron fisted nation, but an obvious one.

No it doesn't. I worked for a US based mining company who had discovered the largest known deposit of cobalt in the world. If you understand the difference between resource, reserve and proven reserve, this company specialized in developing reserves into proven reserves then selling them and moving to the next resource. A Chinese company signed an MOU to purchase the reserves but at critical steps changed the terms of the deal. As the mining company was driven further and further toward bankruptcy, one board member complained that it was as if the Chinese were reading minutes from their boardroom, like the Chinese knew everything we are planning.
They did. The company like most in China was a front for the military. I tried to warn them that the CEO was a General in the Chinese military, but the US company trusted them until they collapsed. The Obama administration refused to do anything to help, cobalt is considered a strategic mineral.
This was a great company, they did economic development in the 3rd world nations that held the resources before they started developing the project. They put indigenous people through university programs to be the engineers, geologists and MBA's to run the project when they were sold. Environmental issues were their highest priorities. They had over a dozen projects in the wings that would have transformed 3rd world country's economies. All gone, nothing but notes in geologist notebooks now.
Sadly this is only one example of hundreds around the world.
You need to read the Chinese 100 year plan to rule the world. They are 60 years into it and by latest reports way ahead of schedule. You need to read what China is doing to it's neighbors, you may have heard about the islands it is building in the China Sea, try to understand why that matters. Tibet is nothing, Hong Kong is nothing, Geovic Mining was nothing to the Obama/Biden Administrations. That's why Hunter Biden's criminal activity with the communist Chinese was so critical to be exposed. Biden's coronation was essential to cover all the dirty tracks. Farewell USA.

I was addressing the middle part of your comment, at no point did I say iron fist. I intended to refute the notion that China is a free market country, they are not. You walk the party line or you "disappear" just as the billionaire founder of Alibaba did recently. this is all to present the façade that they have modernized. I cited a very specific incident that I experienced, not an anecdotal recitation of someone else's experience. Then I concluded, since you are clearly an intelligent person with a recommendation to read the CCP 100 year plan, and threw in commentary why our disgusting media is complicit in the Biden Family crimes and coverup. I got out of college (track scholarship and student loans) with a net worth of $500. My wife and I have worked just your standard middle class jobs, sometimes 2 jobs to make ends meet. Paid off our mortgage, drive 20 year old cars, have taken 2 vacations in the last 25 years and as we come to retirement we have a net worth that puts us is the wealthy class. You wouldn't know it to look at how we live. I don't think people can do that in Uganda or most European countries either. Now we travel, now we go after the bucket list and now we rely on no one but ourselves. It's a beautiful thing, the American Dream, if you don't spend like a politician.
