It is hyperbolic, but it is where we're heading. People have been told the are the wrong color/gender (i.e. white male) due to affirmative action quotas. We haven't gotten to identification, orientation, or gender yet...YET!!!
Case in point, I qualified for an accelerated program when I was in school. (I had not applied, I was sent an automated qualification based on test scores)I had always checked "prefer not to state" on forms that asked race/ethnicity. When I formally applied, I was disqualified solely because I was white.

Did they tell you why you were disqualified? Did they actually say "we're not accepting you because you're white?" NO, they didn't. You have no idea why.
