That's about right! They are issuing edicts that never passed through the legislature, with no end dates, and all the while they are freeing prisoners from jails because of COVID while jailing business owners who are trying to make a living. Oh... And they don't blink an eye at the Big Box stores like Walmart, Home Depot, etc., having their businesses fully open without any restrictions.

Did you just assume that I am a Republican? That would be wrong. It would be like if I assumed your gender identity. That would be wrong too. But that's just the start of where you are wrong. But arguing will not cure your affliction. I'm done with you.

I'm all for allowing criminals to voluntarily trade their sentence for a one time caning (being struck on the back with a large bamboo pole multiple times) to be completely free and exonerated with no criminal record after that.I just don't see it happening anywhere.

Great idea! It kind of reminds me of the death penalty.

No, there is a doctor present and between each strike they check the vitals and can call it off at any time.

I meant because they're both physical forms of punishment. I'm not saying you're idea is bad.
2 ups, 4y,

Ah ok. I can guarantee that most criminals would take the caning if offered.
0 ups, 4y,

If that's true, then they'd try making it last longer so that it doesn't get exploited. And what happens if an injury occurs during the punishment? Healing it might defeat the purpose of the punishment.
2 ups, 4y
If its administered by a professional injury is guaranteed. The long stay in the prison infirmary is part of the reason its so effective. If the doctor calls it off, the prisoner would have to wait until fully healed before trying it again. Some inmates wouldn't be allowed for health conditions.
There are countries that have this figured out. It works.
0 ups, 4y
Which countries? If other countries have tried it, it must be a good idea!
0 ups, 4y
*your. I can't believe I made that mistake, especially with Grammarly!

What I meant by "Republican" is "one who holds beliefs that can be considered typical for a Republican". I'm sorry if you happen to have left-wing views on other issues. If you claim to be done, that means you've lost.

Because an astonishing amount of people are not really concerned and do not want to do the bare minimum to take precautions against this virus. They'd rather argue and spread misinformation on the internet while being general assholes in public to people who are just trying to get by during this crisis.

Well since there are scores of studies that show masks don't inhibit viral infection (sick people shed viruses through their pores in microscopic sweat particles, from the eyes, etc...etc...) anyone affected by any mandate should immediately sue the government for constitutional overreach.

Scores of studies? No, scores of people making that claim and being disproven? Absolutely.

I don't think the solution to the problem is /more/ bureaucracy.

so no looking for studies then. Shame, you might have learned something. I don't have time now to link them, but maybe later.

You can't go looking for studies or link them if they don't exist.

You can actually, but in this case they do exist try "study shows masks have no effect" on duckduckgo or yippie. You know, real search engines.

Spell check changed the website:www.yippy.com

https://fee.org/articles/new-study-casts-more-doubt-on-effectiveness-of-masks-in-preventing-covid-19-spread/

Article is from May 28, 2020. We have over seven weeks of new information in regards to masks.

Furthermore the authors retracted this study based on the advice of the editors of Annals of Internal Medicine because of new evidence found here: https://www.acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/L20-0745

"To be clear, I’m not telling people not to wear masks. That is a decision people need to make for themselves. I’m not even suggesting stores and other private companies can’t ask people to wear them to do business."

Which is basically admitting that masks are effective but are not the end all be all measure of preventing Covid. Any other articles you'd like me to break down?

My wife led a study on the virus back when it was just getting started. The benefits of wearing a mask are negligible at best and out of the 500 subjects in her study something like 60% still got sick. All were wearing masks.

Cool. Got a link to this study? Also, you said they were all wearing masks... are you saying they didn't have a control group of people not wearing masks for which to compare?

I would need to ask her about that. I know it was with a pharmaceutical company. She told me a little about it but it’s not my thing so I don’t remember. I would imagine that they did though given the reputation of the company.

Cool. Get back to me on that. Otherwise I gotta call it bullshit.

Of course, he won't! He'd immediately be accused of being a dictator. The state governors need to do it, if it needs to be done.

A lot of state governors are too chickenshit to take the lead. Businesses are presently at the forefront of the mask issue.

Thankfully governors aren't issuing such useless edicts!!!

Walmart and other stores now (when things are getting demonstrably BETTER) requiring masks when they didn't before means less shopping at their stores until they undo their policy.

I thought you republicans believe that the civil war had nothing to do with slavery. FFS, Abraham Lincoln himself said that he wanted universal healthcare. Even in the Confederate anthem, "Dixie", there was a vulgar lyric implying that sexual harassment (which modern-day Republicans perceive as harmless flirting) was more accepted in the CSA, and that therefore, the Republicans were the feminists, lest we forget Theodore Roosevelt, who was known for being a trust-buster. Here's the lyric:

Old Missus marry Will-de-weaber,
Willium was a gay deceaber; Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land.
But when he put his arm around ‘er
Smiled as fierce as a forty-pounder,
Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land.

Its only sexual harassment if its unwanted. Which means there is no actual standard. They literally have to prove at the time that it wasn't welcome, which short of video evidence is impossible.
0 ups, 4y
But I think they were talking about hugging strangers. It would be quite a gamble to assume that a stranger would consent to being hugged. "Old Missus" might also refer to a mistress, and it was feminism that made prostitution illegal in 1910.

What are you trying to tell me?
2 ups, 4y
At least we have a president who reads the Constitution. Barry had no idea what was in it, hence Obamafraud.
