Racially-based systemic bias that is not under the control of any one group, I'll consider. "White privilege" is racist and misleading.

Racially-based systemic bias that is not under the control of any one group is usually "white privilege" in the USA

...perhaps. But referring to it as "white privilege" carries the connotation that whites have control over it and are doing it on purpose out of malice. It assigns an elective power to a group while denying it to others, thereby making that group a target. It does not heal racism and division, it fans the flames.

Not at all. But not recognizing it as "white privilege" is disingenuous.

You don't need to do something consciously for it to be true. You can be sexist and not realize it. You CAN be homophobic and not realize it. You CAN be racist and not realize it.
1 up, 4y
Yet "privilege" carries the connotation of a conscious choice. And "white" makes light-skinned people a target.

What's so racist about wanting equality, and police to stop killing innocent African Americans based on their race? Black lives matter isn't about white lives not mattering. it's about black people trying to stop oppression. But of course, white supremacists don't like that so they is the same thing with BLM they did with feminism: change how people saw it. instead of being an organization trying to stand up for Black people, it now seemed like an organization against white people. And you've fallen right into that trap, InarenCorp.
0 ups, 4y,

I would say some in the movement just want equality. However a big part of it treats white people as some kind of wrong that must be stopped. Instead of using their resources just to help one race, why don't they commit to helping all kinds of people that have it much worse than the average person? Instead of that they spend their time shaming people because of their "white privilege".

Yes racism exists. It will never be completely stamped out. But people are racist. I don't believe in American systemic racism (excluding organizations designed to be racist like the KKK). I don't think most people in BLM are racist, but I think sometimes it's encouraged.
1 up, 4y,
1 reply
The BLM movement focuses mainly on black people not because of favoritism, but because Black people have been oppressed a lot recently, and people don't want to just be byestanders. Again, BLM is about justice for Black people, not hate against white people. Standing up to racist white people killing innocent black people isn't hating white people.
1 up, 4y
If that was the case, why try to shame and guilt trip white people just for being white? Why riot and kill people (some black) and ruin their businesses?

In America opportunity is available really for anyone. I still say racism is exercised by more people than it should obviously (as it shouldn't exist in anyone); I don't believe America contains systemic racism. (As I said before aside from organizations that their very purpose from the start was essentially to be racist.)

Are black people the only ones that are oppressed? If not why not help those other people? How is that not favoritism? Just dropping some thought provoking questions.

Fifteen, sixteen, and twenty are wrong. COVID IS real, you should be cautious, not all the fear is from the media but from the actual people, and white people do have privilege. Want to know how I know that? Well, I am white and three of my relatives have died from COVID. I will say that 11 is VERY true.

Perfect example of what I mean. 1. White people don't exist. Tney are not a race. 2. The so called "privilege" is exercised on their behalf, and is not under their control.
0 ups, 4y,

Just like black people's privilege is sometimes out of their control. And white is an official race. Not even making fun, it is a legitimate race.
1 up, 4y,

The concept of race is itself a social construct. (I can feel the multi-gender folks fuming, but it is true.) "White" is one half of a dichotomy created during the Atlantic slave trade. The official term is "caucasian," yet both are controversial and there is no set definition of either. Morocco and South Africa are both in Africa. Are light skinned people from these countries white? What about Egyptians?

I'm not intending to initiate a discussion aimed at defining race. None of us have any control of the accidents of our birth. It is hardly a stretch to recognize that the system may have built in biases that need to be corrected. That is a long way from saying that light skinned people are willfully and consciously involved in a conspiracy to disadvantage others.
3 ups, 4y,

It is history that, for hundreds of years, light skinned people (Europeans) have enslaved dark skinned people (Africa) for profit and social status. It is history. And some people STILL hang on to those Middle-Age beliefs because it benefits them. Not all whites, but a significant few.

I am not saying that you should start treating blacks and whites differently. If someone is a shitbag, I don't CARE what race they are, I will treat them LIKE A SHITBAG. But it does go to say that Floyd's death to a white police officer is not an anomaly. Now, rioting and burning down businesses? That is damn wrong. But acknowledging the injustice peacefully is vital to bring about change.

It is also mildly inconvenient for you, because guess what? LIGHT-SKINNED PEOPLE ENSLAVED DARK-SKINNED PEOPLE IN AMERICA FOR OVER TWO CENTURIES. See? I am not denying what this person said, but really? Anti-white racists?

He wasn't denying past slavery in the US, he was pointing out a lack of acknowledgement of the fact that Africans did enslave each other and continue to do so today. There are wrong people of every ethnicity or race.
0 ups, 4y
And when I look through a logic-colored lens, I see you never construct a logical argument.
2 ups, 4y
Yes, I am aware of this. Africans did for a long time to sell slaves to the Europeans. Cruel and wrong but profitable. Also, I am also aware of the extremely idiotic African governments that still enslave their people.
0 ups, 4y
not as many dark skinned people enslaved other dark skinned people as light skinned people did. And dark skinned people enslaving other dark skinned people is no excuse for our own ancestors' actions.
0 ups, 4y
I do not disagree.

The whole concept of race was created by white people trying to feel powerful and to distinguish themselves as higher people. And now racially color blind people deny the atrocity their ancestors comitted.
1 up, 4y
So why hold on to the concept? This is going to sound trite but you can't get to the future that you want to live in by focusing on the past you hate.

And no one is denying anything. What do you hope to gain by saying something like that? None of us have any control over what our ancestors did.
